Everyone in the comments saying we should build more than 8 while i agree we could do with more ships. Im just hoping they dont cut it down to reduce the number like they did with the type 45's. Also i dont think we could afford to have more than 8 on the defence budget as its not just a case of purchasing the ship you also have the cost of running the ship aswell as any updates needed. Then you have the fact as soon as the last one is built they will most likely be working on/designing there replacement as the average expected operational effectiveness is about 30 years for a modern warship. Then we have the issue of man power shortage at the moment. What im just hoping for is that the type 31 is as good as they say it is or better and the build about 10 of them using these for escort/patrolling areas and leaving the 45's and 26 ships for aircraft carrier battle groups.

It still has to come by sea and the threat is always that Europe will get eaten up by Russia and they will be able to close the door behind us and in front of us. The UK is also only building single role ships, ie Type 26 ASW role, Type 45 destroyer - anti aircraft role. Where are the warships capable of destroying other warships? Or let's look at it this way, how about a "Type 26 +" with everything exactly the same, but with a lengthened hull with double the no. of vertical launchers, and 16 LRASM? Anything wrong with that?? Load up the entire of each side of the mission bay with fixed placement air defense missiles. Modify the top so you can easily remove ii then use a crane to drop in silos so you can add in long range air defense missiles... Though i don't know if it needs any special armor around the thing or if the weight of it will throw the ship off balance, but if they could turn the thing into a quick swap air defense frigate.... Shiiittt who would need anything else... Not saying anti ship cause them missiles weight much more... at least i think they do... Put lasers, seawiz, or one of em rotating anti air systems in the hanger and have it slide out on rails to the rear of the ship when needed. i mean, you wont be able to store a helo but it's no longer the role... Laser on middle rail, anti air on the left and right rails.... Or shitt maybe that laser needs it's own generator so the entire hanger is stuffed with a roll on generator to power that sucka.

Baseshocks sorry mate but you ain’t a military strategist/designer and neither am I but I can assure you that idea sounds like a bunch of bollocks,but to be fair though stupid,can most likely be done.
@Baseshocks5 жыл бұрын
@@aquillandscroll6428 No i am not, i am just looking at burke destoryer's, drop in missile silo's, connect the cables. As for torps, why not? Do they not just use air pressure to slide out of the tubes on the side of ships... All they need is a space to sit on.
@aquillandscroll64285 жыл бұрын
Baseshocks Like I said what you said may sound stupid but I also admit that the ship can be configured for that as the mission bay is more like an empty space you can change for your needs.

In a genuine wartime environment that mission bay would be best utilised by installing another 96 VLS cells to deal with saturation attacks by the full range of enemy missiles, but also to deploy land attack tomahawks. The multi mission bay is fine for peacetime versatility but some ships should be modified for an actual wartime scenario

It's very clever of the UK's royal navy to develop this stealth fleet they have. New technology means that any enemy can only detect 6 destroyers, 12 dated frigates and 1 aircraft carrier with no fighter jets on it. Lolz

The problem is the British government when describing British warships the thing that keeps coming in is it can help in disaster areas, it can distribute aid these are things that do not belong in warship design, this why British warships lack offensive weapons and no longer look like fighting ships.

It would be really helpful if people knew what they were talking about.

Problem is that currently the type 26 has no torpedo tubes and the navy currently has not started any projects related to silo launched anti-ship missiles or anti-submarine missiles.

The Brit. That's what the Lynx wildcat is for, its also responsible for anti-ship, so I'd say its got those covered.
@sierrawhiskey51556 жыл бұрын
Not in severe weather! So if the helicopter becomes lost or unserviceable the ship loses its anti-submarine & anti-ship capability? You're also suggesting the ship might never need to engage two or more surface/ submerged targets at once.
@sierrawhiskey51556 жыл бұрын
Excellent point Ronald. Who would use enormously expensive fighter planes or combat vehicles to deliver aid? so why use a mega expensive war ship? Would be cheaper & more efficient to pay commercial shipping / logistics to do this.

It's unfortunate the construction of the Canadian Type 26 is awarded to Irving Shipbuilding
@JollyOldCanuck Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately Davies Shipyard was recovering from a bankruptcy when the National Ship Building Strategy was originally formulated which led to Irving Shipyards getting the contract, but to be fair Canadian shipyards were used to working on ships under 5,000 tonnes displacement throughout most of the 20th century and the first decade of the 21st century. You can see Irving, Seaspan, and Davies struggling to upgrade their facilities to accommodate the construction of 6,000 tonnes Arctic OPVs, 20,000+ tonnes JSS and Polar Class 2 Icebreakers, and the 8,000 tonnes Type 26 CSC, slow delivery times and cost overruns were inevitable.
