Great video. I have a mint Jinsen Type 30 bayonet. Early features. Another one of my gun show scores from years ago. It goes great with my Nagoya Arisaka Type 99 short rifle. Thanks for the video.

Over the course of my life(now 74 years) I've managed to accumulate several bayonets of different vintage and from different countries which I've managed to hang onto.. Fortunately most I now have the rifles they fit onto also. Some of these bayonets i had no idea what they were for at the time of my acquiring them? Funny how things work out sometimes. Bayonets now are quite expensive in today's market place. What was veterans bring back(found mostly in basement flooring joist) junk now is my treasure. I've recently learned that the hook on them were used in leu of stacking swivels not to hook enemies throats as we thought as kids.

Actually, a fair number of these bayonets (mine included) made their way into Europe through Russian hands. Russian garrisons in the Grand Duchy of Finland were equipped with Arisaka rifles and bayonets during WW1. They were subsequently used in the Finnish Civil War by the Reds and the Whites. I've seen the Arisaka bayonet offered for 50€, so by the looks of it, it's not such a rarity in Finland.

They might be a lot of them but no one is giving them away . I was trying to find a repo but couldn't so got one , believe it has hook . Didn't have scabbard so local pawn shop wouldn't buy it , guess I 'll have to get a repo for scabbard & one of grips needs replacing .

On the type 30 Akura/Tokio model with the curved hook guard, what does it mean if only the stacked cannonballs marking is present and centered (no m with arrow in it)? Also, the serial numbers on butt of handle were not clear... are they japanese numbers? what if these are stamped english digits? Is it a knockoff?
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry 4 ай бұрын
The Japanese used the Arabic Numeral system (same as most other nations) for all serial numbers on gun and blade parts during WWII, it is original 👍🏻

@@GreatNorthwestWeaponryThank you for that reply!... can I ask how I might date it?... or ask what you think it's worth? I would hate to sell it, but looks like I might have to. It only has one barely noticeable dent and a few rough spots in the steel scarab, and the blade and handle is in good condition. Blade is blued.

Getting an exact date can be difficult, but charts can be found online. Typically any good chart will have a list of any known combinations of factory stamps and from there (when available) there will be serial number ranges with what dates they are known to have been produced

These aren’t particularly sharp as they have not received any sharpening since WWII, but unlike most other nations of the time the Japanese did have an edge on their bayonets so your assumption may be correct

Hello, I speak little English, I'm watching your video with translation, from what I see, you have a lot of experience with bayonets here in Mexico, the northern area, about 5 hours from McAllen or Browsville. A long time ago, they found this ballonet buried in a mountain range. Of course, I saw those are the handles, my father put them on. Imagine he is 32 years old and died, what could you tell me? I'll send you a photo.

I just want to ask how rare or expensive are Type 30 Japanese bayonets without fullers? Are they considered last ditch bayonets because they have no fullers?
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry Жыл бұрын
The lack of fullers, straight guard and square pommel is what indicates it as “last ditch,” this one was purchased for $200 USD I believe but they can be more than that. Usually earlier examples are cheaper (I think I purchased the one with the hooked quillon for like $80)
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry Жыл бұрын
As far as rarity I’ve seen only estimates but earlier examples are the most common, mid war examples maybe half that number and less than 10% of total production fit the “last ditch” description
@georgebenta3435
@georgebenta3435 Жыл бұрын
@@GreatNorthwestWeaponry I was just curious because I saw a type 30 bayonet without fullers, straight guard, the grip scales are just straight (no curved contours) wooden grips attached by rivets, but the pommel is similar to your bayonet with the hooked quillion. It comes with a metal scabbard, not a bamboo scabbard, I'm under the impression that it might be an earlier or first batch of "last ditch" bayonets, before they were truly desperate. I'm from the Philippines, and I was surprised to find out that the Japanese had issued fullerless bayonets to their troops here maybe sometime in 1944 since the US returned in October 1944 in the battle of Leyte Gulf. Initially Ithought that these last ditch bayonets were only issued within Japan.
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry Жыл бұрын
You are probably right about it being on the earlier side of last ditch, there are I believe 16 different variations of the Type 30 bayonet (I mention it in the video, just can’t recall at the moment) and changes to the bayonet were not consistent across all the different arsenals at all points in time
@georgebenta3435

I just remembered that it was being sold for 140$, I'm not sure if it's expensive or cheap.

I didn't know that the Type 30 Bayonet was a major influencer on Europeans. While I would like an legit bayonet, I don't feel I am worthy of it so I have a reproduction instead.
