We need to love our natural hair and wear it as it is. We get way too uptight about styling in the workplace, but I find that if you embrace your locks, other will as well. Here's to being 100% natural Barb, keep inspiring the natural hair journey. Much love. I'm in...

Barbara, your hair is BEAUTIFUL! I think we have been so conditioned to think that "presentable" or "aesthetic" black hair is supposed to be just one way, but it doesn't. Your braids are long, pretty, neat, and wonderfully natural. I have hair like yours, and my hair strands are thin and delicate but I have many strands like you so it's dense when it's out in an afro or stretched state. When my hair is in braids or even twists, it doesn't present its large state but, becomes compacted. That is very beautiful because it shows again the diversity of Black/Melanated hair. Love your channel!

I use to experience a lot of shedding when wearing minis braids, so I started wearing them for 2 weeks, instead of 2 months. After experiencing the same problem, I noticed how heavy handed I would be when washing and moisturizing them. Once I stopped being so rough on my strands, I had less breakage.
@youknowyoulikeit10002 жыл бұрын
Everything you said is true. I have been wearing my hair like this for over a year and I have retained so much growth. I purchased a cute measuring tape so I can track my progress for next year. The longest part of my hair is 16 inches and the front is 10-breakage from before 🥴 But this method definitely works for growth. And to stop the frizzy I braid over handed which produces a tighter braid. I won’t be frizzy just braid it the opposite way

When you have thinner/fine but fabulous hair like I do I don't like mini mini braids either 🤔 just small braids! I will leave them in for two weeks and then do washday! 🌿💪

I have been wearing my hair in braids twist but as of late, I started to african thread again (using yarn). I put my wig on and remove it as soon as I get in the house for the evening. My hair is thickening before my eyes! Moringa, rosemary, ppo, lavender, and few others I have left out from my oils. Leave it alone and let it grow!!!

Sis, thank you for sharing the set back to your length retention. Your commitment to regain your length with medium braids has inspired me to use them for length retention. My only concern is if I will have the stamina to braid my hair at 59! I don't move like I used to! LOL1 I'm on board with you, though! Medium braids for long beautiful 4c hair!

Sis,it takes me two days to finish mine am not lying. It’s not easy even at my age so no worries. Take as long as you can as long as get them on. Sometimes even the take down takes me a whole day and by the time I am done, my hands are in pain. Thank you for your support😍

Loose medi-mini twists working 4 me. They shrink n tighten (but not to tight spirals) up when I moisturize twice weekly. Have super fine hair. Braiding n tight-twisting 2 much manipulation. I soooo wish I could wash in my protective style. Once I keep moisturized with bi-weekly takedown (or I will have starter locs) = massive retention & thickness! So glad to see people finding their sweet spot for their unique needs.

Mini braids and twists are great, and they do help many ladies retain length especially when extension hair isn't used. They don't work well for me personally so I wear a wash-n-go or twisted updos which are better for my hair.

There's another KZbinr who is in the same situation. She damaged her long thick hair too. Her channel is Mercy Gono BSN, RN. She is doing a new hair journey reboot like yourself. You may want to check her out. You are so inspiring and I love your channel. I will be watching.❤️

Hello. Thanks a lot for the video. I love your mini braids hair style! How often do you wash and condition your hair when you have them installed? Also, when you wash and condition your hair, how often do you remove the braids and shedding and then reinstall them?

Does putting hair in bun count too when it comes to protecting the hair for length? Cause I don't like the look of mini braids and twists on my head cause it looks so thin.
@1GoldenBreeze2 жыл бұрын
Just try not to make the bun too tight so you don't damage your edges, and you should be fine. You can also put it in twists or braids and then put those in a bun.
@pelomk90222 ай бұрын
Only if your ends are tucked or protected from friction and the bun isn't too tight.

Barbra dear the problem I have is, even if I do natural braids, they be so hard. They can't bounce at all. They are always stiff in one direction. What can I do?
@lesliewint2734 Жыл бұрын
Hello Sis, once you moisturize every morning as a routine, you will be surprise to know that the bounce, the life, and the shin comes back, l use a liquid spritz moisturizer that makes my hair very soft and bounce beautifully. Yu could try it out.
@nalubegahibbah5899 Жыл бұрын
i want my hair to be soft how do u make your hair soft and stretching
@BarbaraBirungiSunflower Жыл бұрын
Moisture moisturise moisture. Water is the best moisturizer and make sure to seal the moisture in your hair. And for stretching your hair, I use African threading to stretch I have videos on this channel on how I do that.

Most likely a redundant question but would you not consider doing your natural mini braids little pieces of synthetic or natural hair left to create more of a full hairstyle you would still be able to moisturize your scalp and ends
@154angel154 Жыл бұрын
Sometime you could compromise future and/or potential density increase with the use of extensions. Not always...but sometimes.

What of mini twists
@BarbaraBirungiSunflower2 жыл бұрын
Mini twists work too. I can't keep mine in for long because my hair tangles a lot with mini twists so I prefer braids for that matter.
@emmanuellalockner87792 жыл бұрын
Is it that important to tuck your ends away even with mini twist? My hair is not that long so all I can do for now is to keep my hair in a ponytail with the ends of the twists exposed
@carreyruthbell27072 жыл бұрын
