This Chi Ha in 28mm scale is the first Japanese tank I've ever built! Not a bad model by warlord games. There are gaps here and there but it's an interesting vehicle and it's certainly not a bad model.
Would build again! Probably with the bigger turret next time. Maybe. Who knows!
Also I know I misspoke at the start by saying it was a type 95 Chi Ha. Making mistakes is what I do!

The Chi Ha is extremely weird, have you thought about making more dioramas

Not really. I don't have anywhere to store them. Though I am kind of thinking of doing a small one in a little display case for the M3 Lee I did last week... It won't be much... Just some ground with tank tracks and some grass. I would need to find the display case before anything else though.

I might be wrong since I usually only look at Japanese tanks to aim my Sherman guns, but I think the first part you called an antenna is a machine gun mount, Japanese tanks had strangely shaped gun pintles, and really everything else. That horseshoe piece wrapping around the turret is indeed a radio antenna.

Yeah, I actually had a similar thought when I was playing world of tanks after I did the video. they do seem to have odd angled bars to hold their guns up.

The later hull can be used with the 57mm gun. The tool box on the rear is only used on the later hull.

The handrail thing on the turret is actually an internal crew comunication system, thats also a handrail.

The small turret can go on the later hull. The large box on the back is only on the later hull.

The burn you see on the hull is a moulding defect. The speed of the plastic flowing into the mould was too fast and the plastic fumes got traped into the plastic. This also can happen if your mould ia dirty from the up mentioned plastic fumes that bilded up on the edge of the mould.
@HerbertErpaderp
@HerbertErpaderp 6 жыл бұрын
That makes sense. I thought maybe it had happened some time after the moulding process. during never occurred to me. Doesn't seem to be too major an issue. And it's hidden anyway.

Something very charming about the Chi-Ha. It probably appeals to me because it reminds me of the Panzer 38(t)...and I don't think it'd hurt too much to grab a box of Infantry and maybe an AT gun. Gives your British something different to fight.
@HerbertErpaderp

It is a bit Panzer 38(t)ish in a way. Might be the rivets. It probably can't hurt to build a small Japanese force. Maybe I could use it against a semi Australian force with my Sentinel.

Herbert Erpaderp that's the spirit! With the 8th army coming soon from warlord they might fit in nicely as Australians.

There is a resin version that came in the army box I bought. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with the Shinhoto turret like the plastic kit does. If you aren't using it, may I buy it from you? I've magnetised my turret and would like the option to field the variant.

I really like your building videos. The experienced modeler got all the information that is useful and a beginner got a clear view on what to expect from the new hobby. This video is a good example for that. Well done.👍

Even if you're a novice painter or don't want to paint your kit at all, it could do with an extensive amount of black line wash in order to add some depth an accentuate the molded in detail.

Nice vid, as always. I built the previous WG version of the Chi Ha and have been thinking about getting the up-gunned variant, so this is really useful, so thnx. The Japanese have a very different feel in Bolt Action, IMO. Their tanks are really not that great for anti-tank work, but MGs in armour are always good in BA, so the Chi Ha is a good addition to any Japanese BA army. Now you have the tank, you know you want an army ....

Ahhhh! Stop trying to tempt me! haha. I would imagine the howitzer firing HE would be good on infantry and AT guns and stuff too.
@repairmanbruce7318
@repairmanbruce7318 6 жыл бұрын
In BA, HE is always good, in my experience - at least when you are the one shooting, rather than receiving. The Chi Ha howitzer is good for purpose, but not enough PEN for anti-tank work except against light stuff. I have found that the IJA Banzai charging the tanks with a few suicide anti-tank teams with a +8 PEN does provide a deterrent against the heavier armour, though. The Chi Ha and the artillery then just need to soften the infantry for the inevitable mass Banzai close combat charge by the IJA infantry teams. Much fun to be had with a bit of Banzai ...

The characters down the right hand side of the numbers in Japanese ranging from 1 (一) to 10 (十). Also, when writing numbers in Japanese once you go past 19 you put the number of tens before the character 十 to signify it is (blank) number of tens. For example, 20 would be 二十. 2 is 二 and 10 is 十 and you have 2 tens or 2 x 10. However, 100 has it's own character so don't try saying 十十 to signify 100. Also, when reading Japanese it is pronounced phonetically. As in, the character for 'a' would make an 'uh' noise instead of an 'aye' noise. some of the characters on the left are part of the Hiragana Alphabet which is the alphabet used for only Japanese words. The Katakana alphabet is used for foreign words. The ones that I can decipher are the characters for 'a' (あ), 'ta' (た) and 'ro' (ろ). But, those ones are written quite a bit more fancy. I'm not sure about the fourth one though. I hope this knowledge comes in handy.
