Thanks for explaining the 2 90 degree turns that a L-head/flathead engine has. I have heard about the 90 degree turn where the intake manifold meets the valve. Nobody described to me the 90 degree turn where the fuel/air mixture goes down the cylinder. Jeep made the F-head engine because they wanted more horsepower than their L-head, but they didn't want to develop a completely new engine. Honda used a valve inside their divided combustion chamber. They called it a CVCC engine. Direct injection made the divided combustion chamber obsolete. A by having the injector spray the most fuel near the spark plug, there would be a rich mixture that is easier to light, and it would spread to a lean mixture that is difficult to light.
