That is because industrial is not goth. Industrial and most of the genres she mentions here are part of a separate lineage. We are not idiots, we are goths who were around when the music and scene began. Industrial sounds entirely different than goth music. Rivetheads are their own subculture. Your culture and ours intersect, but they are distinct. Due to demand, many clubs used to have a goth room and industrial room, and this is where the confusion and conflation began. Goth is its own distinct genre with its own subgenres, which are dark post-punk, gothic rock, deathrock, darkwave, ethereal wave and cold wave. Industrial is its own genre with its own subgrenres. The two are readily identifiable by any musician. I have found that it is primarily non-musicians who are unable to differentiate between the two. Over half the "goth" community are actually rivetheads who don't understand that they are rivetheads, not goths. Nothing wrong with being a rivethead, industrial has plenty of appeal- but it is NOT goth. The only thing wrong with being a rivethead is calling yourself goth when you are not.
@nicorizzo5402Ай бұрын
@chameleon47 I listen to goth rock genres too, but if you know anything about how cultures work you'd know that cultures merge together all the time, and rivethead culture eventually merged with goth culture and is now considered part of the goth community.

Industrial and goth have always had a relationship since the beginning and a lot of goth and synth pop wouldn't exist if not for bands like Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire etc. Industrial and EBM is not a goth music, but goth listen to this music and it became a huge part of the goth scene in general. You just can't deny it
@retrosonique71293 ай бұрын
@@helgaketurka Because you cannot change history. Industrial music is even older than the entire Goth scene. Do your homework. EBM came from Punk and Industrial. No Gothic at all. The only Goth genre is Gothic Rock. That's the foundation of Goth. Everything else isn't.

@@retrosonique7129 Sure, and Gothic Rock came from what😆you miss the point of what I've said. And I thought that I am a gatekeeper😁, but you're on some another level. There's nothing wrong with my "homework", I'm in this theme for more than 15 years. And you have a problem with processing small sentences. How narrow minded should a person be to think that goths can only listen to Goth rock. Or "Goth" should be in the name of the genre for you to think it's Goth?))
@retrosonique71293 ай бұрын
@@helgaketurka You miss the point. Goths can listen to everything, but the basic is Gothic Rock. There is no Goth culture without Gothic Rock. On the other hand Industrial, EBM, Synth Pop are not Goth at all and they were never Goth. For example, Future Pop is a mix of Synth Pop and Trance/Techno. No Goth at all. Back in the early 1990s, some Goths also listened to Grunge music. So what? This music doesn't become "Goth music" just because some Goths listen to it. Furthermore, there are seperate Industrial and EBM scenes. They don't want to be called "Goth" simply because they aren't Goth.

If these are your favourite bands, you are not goth, you are a rivethead. Own it. Nothing wrong with being a rivethead, but please learn music genres and stop perpetuating misinformation. Goth music consists of dark post punk, gothic rock, deathrock, darkwave, ethereal wave, and cold wave.
@helgaketurkaАй бұрын
Oh really?;) You're telling me about British gothic, but if we talk about german goth scene it has a totally different vibe to it, as well as Latin America, Eastern Europe etc. Are you from America (just wondering)? I see nothing wrong about being rivethead, but what if I tell you that I listen to Gothic, Doom metal, post punk, goth rock, dark wave, synth pop, Futurepop, agrotech, classical music...well, you got my point, I think. Those are the genres that many goth listen to, because it's dark, deep but just have different shades and styles.
@chameleon47Ай бұрын
@@helgaketurka I am telling you about the "goth" scene all over the world. It is not actually goth, it is dark alt. If the scene is filled with people who love all the types of music you just mentioned, that is dark alt, not goth. Goth is just one small section of dark alt. But for some reason, the community has usurped the name and you call yourself goth when really dark alt is more accurate if you love and listen to all those styles of music. The only goth bands you mentioned are in the section where you mention death rock. The rest just are not goth, because goth is a music genre and a subculture based around that music genre. If a subculture is based around a variety of genres and the only commonality is being dark and deep, that subculture/community is a dark alt community, as that is what the type of music it is based upon. Nothing wrong with that, either. It is pretty cool. But types of goth music include dark post-punk, gothic rock, deathrock, darkwave, ethereal wave, and cold wave. A person or subculture who primarily listens to these genres is goth (which is a specific type of dark alternative). A person who listens to a wider variety of dark alternative, is dark alt. The subculture you describe is therefore dark alt, not goth. Either way, goth music does not include industrial and its family, no matter who listens to it- thus presenting all of these genres as "types of goth music" is in error. They are types of dark alternative music, not goth. Goth is just that one small section you mention. You wrote "Those are the genres that many goth listen to, because it's dark, deep but just have different shades and styles." but these are the genres that many DARK ALT listen to, because it's dark, deep- but just has different shades and styles. Yes, one of those styles is goth. Industrial is another type of dark alt. But industrial is not goth. Both are dark alt. Both are not goth, only goth is goth. To state otherwise is to blur/dilute/misrepresent/misunderstand what goth music is. Being dark and deep does not make something goth, it makes it dark and deep. Music which is dark and deep and has a prominent bass line which the song is centered around, with primarily jangly guitars providing atmosphere or high noisy/weird guitar riffs, and tends to have a unique drum beat and either baritone male vocals or likely semi-operatic female vocals which are primarily SUNG rather than screamed- is goth. A subculture based around loving THIS type of music is goth. Dark and deep music that is primarily electronic or sample-based, perhaps with heavily distorted guitars- and the vocals are primarily screamed rather than sung, or otherwise distorted/effected highly- is some form of industrial/post-industrial. It isn't goth. A subculture based around loving THIS type of music is a rivethead subculture. Dark and deep music that is primarily guitar-driven, with generally relatively short riffs on heavily distorted guitars prominent in the mix, which form the main melody- is some type of metal, (doom, symphonic, gothic, etc) A subculture based on loving THIS music, is a metalhead culture. A subculture based on loving all 3 types of this music, is DARK ALT, because that is the only description which accurately includes all 3 types of music. It is quite simple, really. Similarly, every "goth" festival is actually a dark alt festival, and they don't even call themselves goth festivals. They readily and accurately state that they feature many different forms of dark alternative music. ".

@@helgaketurka Here is a strong comparative analogy: Imagine a subculture based on the love of spaghetti. They are called "spaghettiheads". This community meets up at various restaurants that serve spaghetti. Then eventually, some of these restaurants start serving pizza because there is a demand for it- because another subculture has developed based on the love of pizza, and they are called "pizzaheads". Another subculture appears, based upon the love of calzones. They are of course, the calzoneheads. So some of the same restaurants start serving calzones, as well. Eventually, these restaurants all serve all 3, because all 3 are popular and in demand. The subcultures intermingle and some of the spaghettiheads, but not all of them- start also enjoying pizza and calzones. Now this does not make pizza or calzones suddenly become spaghetti. This also does not make pizzaheads suddenly become spaghettiheads. Thus, it would be wrong to refer to the entire mixed subculture that has developed as spaghettiheads, but it would be proper to refer to this subculture, and this type of food as Italian food lovers. Note that not every spaghettihead is a pizzahead or a calzonehead, and same for each one every which way. Some people just like spaghetti, some mainly pizza, others calzones- but a lot of them like all 3. If I refer to someone who loves all 3 as a spaghettihead, I am doing them wrong because I am omitting their love for the other two foods. I am also doing spaghettiheads wrong because if people who love all 3 foods call themselves spaghettiheads, this removes the distinction for those who really just love spaghetti. Same goes for the food. If we call all 3 types of food "spaghetti" and say "types of spaghetti include pizza and calzones" we would be wrong. If we said "Types of Italian food include spaghetti, pizza, and calzones" we would be right. Same exact thing as goth, industrial, and metal. Calling the latter 2 goth is wrong, but calling them all DARK ALT is correct. Same goes for the restaurants. Calling them "spaghetti restaurants" would be inaccurate, whereas calling them "Italian Restaurants" would be accurate. Similarly, clubs and festivals that play goth, industrial, and metal- are dark alt, not goth. I hope this strong comparative analogy helps.

@@chameleon47 This only helped me to see how much free time you have and unused potential😉Nice job, but subculture withing different cultures and nations is a little bit complicate matter than a food. You take a subculture and make it so small giving it such a narrow context. I see nothing bad at being a rivethead or a metalhead. But goth subculture has much bigger / wider boundaries than your small world can cope with if you think that goth music consists of 4 genres
@chameleon47Ай бұрын
@@helgaketurka I am sorry it did not help you better understand that industrial music is not goth music and that each is a separate type with its own characteristics. I am sorry you make assumptions about my free time, when you have no actual idea. I type over 100 words per minute. Do the math. I also save replies that I have used to the previous endless line of people who don't understand music genres. Go, go copy/paste! Again, your video is titles "TYPES OF GOTH MUSIC". What you have presented here is types of DARK ALTERNATIVE music. Goth is foremost a music genre, and it sounds as I described in my first reply. If it is not dark post-punk, gothic rock, death rock, darkwave, ethereal wave, or cold wave, it is not goth. It is some other form of dark alt. Again, there is nothing wrong with being a rivethead or a metalhead, but there is something wrong with being either or both and blanketedly wrongfully calling it all GOTH.
