Two years ago I was blonde (almost White) and my hairdresser accidentally damaged a part with Bleach and I lost length in that section. FRR I still remember walking into a place with my mother expecting a simple trim and I ended up with a Bob???? I was a kid at the time so can you imagine how much I cried when we got home? She also curled it inwards and I hated how it looked. (I ended up liking it when it grew out a little but she didn't have to give me a BOB 😭) And I'm like 90% sure the comment she made when we left was backhanded, she said something like "don't you look so much better now!!? This is much better than what you were asking for" MAAM????

That's like me since I have curly hair. Thankfully, I haven't had to change stylists yet and my stylist is great! You have to cut curly hair a certain way btw, if you cut it the wrong way it can come out uneven and just so unnatural looking. Curly hair is beautiful, but you have to maintain it and put things on it to keep it looking beautiful. It's the same thing with people wanting bigger breasts and a booty, you have to take so much care of them for them to be healthy and clean. You can in fact get bumps, acne, and even skin sores under your breasts and even on your butt if you don't clean them, it especially happens with people who have bigger breasts.

I probably come off as the Red Flag because honestly most hairdressers I've been to kinda just don't do my hair the way I want it. I only ever had one girl at my old salon manage to get it right but she moved away like a couple years after I started using her. And then I went to a barber shop instead of a salon and every single person there knew how to cut my hair the way I wanted it EXCEPT for the girl who was there to train as a barber and usually works at a salon. And that's how I learned that the type of hairstyles I like are really easy for barbers to understand but not so easy to translate to salons 😅

Yup, I used to ask for a trim and they'd cut it short with layers. I kinda gave up on having my hair professionally done. I just give it a simple trim when I think it needs it. I like things simple. I'm starting to go grey, but whatever. Let hair be hair.

To be fair, my hair is really fluffy and wavy, but it's looks straight when it's wet, so hairdressers usually cut it the length I want it wet, and then one it dries it's super short. It's why I learned to cut my own hair
@jarofbees7259

Or it dries crooked because one side puffs up more. It's not a red flag customer, it's a sign to actually pay attention to what you're doing. I've gotten to the point I have to warn them I'll walk out if they try to give me f*ing bangs. Not all customers want you to experiment on them.

The cut looked great straight, but didn't do anything for my curls. I now have an ace hairdresser I love. She just does my hair perfectly every time. It looks amazing and I'll always go back to her. Tbh I relate to the “red flag” one. I have weirdly textured hair it’s mixed wavy and super curly and it always turned out wonky no matter if it was cut wet or dry or if it was left natural or straight. My friend cut it last week, she’s not a professional but it looks better than at any salon I’ve been to before. There’s unfortunately no black salons in my area either or anyone who knows how to cut curly hair (okay one but I don’t want to pay 200+€ to get my hair a lil shorter and minimal layers I normally pay like 25-30 ish which is the norm here for plain cuts)
@nyxx5357
@nyxx5357 8 ай бұрын
I would phrase it differently than the video. Intead of being accusatory and putting blame on past stylists, even if they deserve it, maybe say something like "I have a mixed hair texture that is hard to cut neatly, do you have anyone who is experienced with that?" I have to do a similar thing when I book my husband's appointments. His hair is curly and thick, and a lot of stylists don't know how to handle anything but straight or SLIGHTLY wavy hair.
@Cat..Person
@Cat..Person 8 ай бұрын
@nyxx5357 Yea so would I if I talk about it normally and all the people I know no matter what hair texture confirm that my hair texture is weird. I can’t blame hairdressers for being confused by my hair texture bc so am I but they should not be like yea I can handle that if they definitely can’t. Summer 2022 I went to a salon I had been to once before when I had long wavy hair and they were pretty average at cutting it. Then I went there with corkscrew curls in the front and wavy or loosely curly hair in the back and they said they can handle it and put relaxers in my hair without my consent (which my hair still hasn’t fully recovered from it’s wavy curly everywhere now corkscrews are gone), cut it very badly and blow dried it straight even tho to the question whether they should blow dry it at all not even straight I said no. So that salon deserves all the shit I give them tbh but everywhere else I’ve grown the mentality of meh it’ll grow back

I rarely, if ever, let a "professional " cut my hair because i can't afford one that listens. Last year, I got fed up with my long, heavy hair and always putting it up. I brought in 3 pictures of what i wanted, multiple pictures of my current hair (because it was unwashed and in a bun), and asked her if she could do a long layer bob. She assured me it would be no problem. I got 2+ feet of hair cut off and walked out with a 70s shag just like hers. I wore it up and still do most of the time, but it weighs less.

I'm in veterinary medicine, but it's funny how the red flag translates the same in any profession. If someone comes in saying that you're their 6th professional in a row and nothing can be straightened out, they're probably going to be looking for a 7th too. 😂

I honestly don’t mind I have curly hair and I don’t think it looks bad, but every single time I’ve gotten my hair done they cut off wayyyy to much I’m talking 4-6 inches gone. I’m autistic and can’t handle change especially unexpected change and no one will listen to me. My hair is not dead and even if it was it’s my decision and they always act like I’m an idiot who doesn’t understand anything about hair. My go-to is just go to a different hairdresser each time, give them a specific length I want and let them suggest what would work best. Some really want specific instructions, but others are excited they get to do their own thing. Got some really nice styles that way. (Nothing ever too experimental, though. I didn't visit alternative stylists.)

The platinum one hits home. 😅 When I first went blonde I didn't know that you can only lighten a certain number shades at a time. I also didn't know that foils leave original colour mixed in so it takes 2-3 sessions to get a more solid look. But the hairdresser was very patient to explain it to me and once I understood everything was fine. A little humility goes a long way.

@kalenhuntley3508 7 ай бұрын
@@Pixielly I have a dark Auburn color naturally, and my hair was box dyed a lighter red. Red already is a hassle to get blonde because the brassiness takes FORVER to get out, and that was my main problem. I also underestimated the thickness of my hair so I wasn't able to bleach my roots for a couple rounds. I did it slowly and carefully. My hair still thinned quite a bit. I love the icy blonde look I think it's so pretty. But yeah, it just took a really long time to get the yellow out. I have cool skin, so warm blondes look terrible on me. It's gotta be nice and light, a nice ice or ash blonde to look good.

I explained it, I pointed to where I wanted it. And I walked out with a Bob that was literally one step away from a Karen cut. Plus she straightened my hair and idk if it was my hair or what but it defied gravity in that style. Stuck straight out lmao

On the rare occasion I see a stylist I used to be the red flag client, until I randomly took a walk in spot with a 50+ year old lady who had zero idea how to do hair that isn't buzzcut, longtop, or grandma perm. She was so flustered she accidentally gave me exactly what I asked for instead of what she thought would look good. Best haircut of my life, I tipped her double. I don't even try anymore with stylists who have all sort of certificates and marketing buzzwords, they keep doing cuts and colors I don't ask for because some textbook or fashion mag said it'd suit me better (it's a universal experience in my area with hair and makeup, most people play style gamble until they find a salon with matching taste)

Most stylists don't like doing pixie or mens cuts and aren't trained to use a clipper. I still have yet to find someone who can do my unfercut without leaving it uneven or cutting into my tipknot. So sometimes it is actually valid. 🤷‍♀️

this is ironic because I just got my hair cut today.😂 I got an undercut sort of like those male K-pop stars. I am loving it so far, especially with how my old hair dye blends into my hair٫ making it look like I spent 100s of dollars to make it look like that (I only spent $15 to get it cut).

Lol apparently I'm the red flag. Every time I ask for my split ends to be removed they fuck it up and cut off years worth of my hair growth instead of just cutting the split ends like I asked. Pisses me off. I dont want inches off I want you to go strand by strand, find the splits, cut them. Otherwise it's not worth the money at all. (I stopped getting haircuts at salons. They actually do never get it right. I can get it right myself)

Who is out here playing stylist bingo? I find a great stylist I really trust and religiously go to them even if they change salons. I tip 25%. And if they tell me my ends need more length cut off, or bangs are too much maintenance for me, I LISTEN. If it was easy to do hair, I wouldn't be paying someone else with expertise to do it for me. Also, girl knows ALL my business. She's the last person on Earth I would screw with.

Last time I had my hair cut I walked into the salon with four photos. 1) me with my hair done an inch too short. 2) me with the style I wanted for the front. 3) inspo photo for an undercut and 4) inspo photo for the back/side profiles. Technically she currently it slightly too short - but that's mostly my fault as I also said to take 16 inches for the hair donation scheme if she could get close to the cut I wanted still. The only unrealistic thing I do regarding colour is occasionally request a patch test - when I know the only real question is "how much will my skin not like this dye" - since it's never been a full blown allergy reaction I like to consider it every so often.

In my case, many hairdressers have gotten my hair great, even perfect, and some of them multiple times. That's not to say there haven't been hairdressers to have messed up so bad I was questioning how they were even hairdressers in the first place, but these are exemptions. One thing I can wholly attest to though is that NO hairdresser and when I say NO I mean NO hairdresser has ever gotten my sister's hair perfect, and in fact, most of the times it's very average or straight up bad (I'm talking teenagers and older, I don't remember as a kid). There is a couple of honourable mentions, note: not of hairdressers, but of haircuts, but at the end of the day, never great and certainly never perfect. I don't know how to explain this. Even hairdressers who got my hair great, messed hers up greatly. I used to think she was picky, but over the years I started seeing what she was seeing. She has never gotten a great haircut! I would also be pissed and keep in mind, she's very sweet to the hairdresser, she's quite the opposite of a red flag, which come to think of it, might actually be the problem. Just saying for the people who might rush to conclusions. Now, do they underestimate what she's asking for? Does she have a weird head shape? Is she cursed? I don't know, but it is true. Noone has ever done her hair really really really good, noone! And it's just crazy to me

Well you would love me as a client. I only ever want a bit of a trim, just to get the double ends out. As much as needed as little as possible. I even let my cousin practice on me when she went to school to be a hairdresser but was not allowed to work on people yet. It's just hair, it grows back. Also no styling ever stays in place for more than 2-3 hours max, so no need to do anything fancy to my hair.

I can only afford to go to great clips most of the time, and if it’s in layers they cut it all one length and it’s way shorter than I wanted. So one time I told a hairstylist at a fancy place that I wanted a trim and that my hair was in layers. She was so confused if I wanted a trim or layers. I just wanted a trim that didn’t fuck up the style 😢
