I am new to vintage typewriter repair and refurbishing. This came in very handy with my Remington Quite Riter... Thank you

And this is why sometimes we can’t fix it ourselves. Good job!

Excellent video. Manipulating springs with spring hooks like that reminds me of the kid game Operation, which also requires a delicate touch. Nice improvisation at the end with the loop.

Yea, that spring fought me for a bit, I blame it on the camera that impedes my vision and approach angles sometimes....

Once again, you post just what I need to know! I have the same machine with the same problem..

Calling a recalcitrant spring 'buddy' is a sign of a man who loves his job!

Hey, I do that too. The only difference is that most of my conversation with parts and pieces involves four letter words! 😁 There's a saying in software development, "Profanity is the one language every computer programmer knows." Same thing!

Yeah, so do I. Just watch out for anything answering back!!@@bwhog

I got my 1957 Quiet-Riter cleaned up and running, no skipping! Bell same thing. Paper release lever is broken, I have the lever but the other 2 parts are missing. It was probably stuck and somebody probably forced it. With the right carriage end cap off I can press down and release the paper. Other than that it is a great typewriter. Next up a 1955 Office-Riter, seems to be intact, just even more filthy.

I have this on a few typewriters. A bell ringer with no rebound so the bell can't resonate, but also a bell and attachment that doesn't seem meant to allow the bell to actually be a bell. It might as well just be hitting a steel plate, for all the good it does. Can't hear it over the sound of the keys when you're really moving.

Did you ever find that ring. I hate it when that happens. I can see at what point it disappeared into thin air.

Nope, it found the elusive black hole . . . .

i have a Remington model 5 and the paper in the rings are bent, if you get one in can you do a video on replacing them?
