Thanks, as always for a great and detailed video. I’m eyeing one of these on eBay right now and was wondering about the underside of the key caps. The one on eBay, (as well as the unit you show here) have some key some of the key caps with a black underside where some keys look like they are missing this black piece. Do you know if that is an intentional design element or a covering that has fallen off? The ones missing on the one I’m eyeing differ from the ones missing on yours. Thanks again for such informative and well produced videos.

Very interesting, no designated '1' key. Is that a regular thing?

Somewhat common the older machine you have.

I thought my was the Olympia sm7 but my does have the number 1 in it I'm confused now. Any ideas which one it can be!?

If yours looks like this model and is carriage shift, it’s an SM7, whether or not it has a dedicated 1 key.

I'd love to own a working typewriter. But...I know nothing about typewriters or their maintenence. I think it's time to start learning. Any suggestions on where to start for a newbie?

Phoenix Typewriter on KZbin has lots of videos on repair and maintenance. I have learned a lot from watching them. You should also join the Antique Typewriter Collector group on Facebook and the Antique Typewriter Maintenance group on Facebook. Finally, Richard Polt has lots of information available on his web page, including links to a section on typewriter maintenance and restoration. site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/indexmobile.html

I started out buying typewriters. The first one I got was an Olympia SM-9 1968. It was Pristine condition. I just thought I'd get a couple more and before you know it, you got double digits. I put a stop to now, kinda. You must have one by now. Absolutely FUN !

The SM7 is so much better looking than the 8 and 9. Could get one locally but it has a huge carriage so not too thrilled about that.

Do you know the type of key the case uses or know where to get one? Even if its not original.

Did some research and found out its a sudhaus 805 key. Ended up making one out of a nail file lol
