Typhoon SWELL of the SEASON in Korea! (Pumping Surf)

Visiting Korea in the Fall I was told we may end up scoring some pretty fun surf. The luck of being in the right place at the right time for the swell of the season, a legit typhoon swell on the East coast of South Korea, is still something I'm surprised by. Either it happens all the time or I'm the luckiest man alive!? Thank you for all of the stoke on the trip of a lifetime through South Korea! FOR THE DREAM!!! - Ben

When he came to Korea, I thought I wouldn't see him, but I felt so good because he said he would come to Busan, and I ran right away, putting everything aside. This is an unforgettable day. Ben, I don't know if you saw my comment before you left for Korea but while in the Military in 1966 I surfed in Busan. Great waves 3 to 4' faces and long rides. I had it all to myself back then with only a few watching from shore. I love seeing all the surfing going on now and how the country has changed. I was stationed up near the DMZ for 13 months (LOTS OF ACTION DURING THAT TIME) and was down in Busan for a week. I surfed for 50 years and had to give it up (LONG STORY). I look forward to seeing your every post, that's how I get my surfing done with you now. Thanks Bro, Jack

Back in 04 I was stationed near Deagu, back then there was one surf shop in the entire country, Surfer's Dream at Haeundae Beach. the owner Ricky Kim would text my room mate Alex and I when typhoon swell was coming in and we'd hop on the KTX with our boards and either surf Haeundae or Seongjung. This is back when there were maybe 6 local Korean surfers out there and us, two American GI's. The vibe was so awesome and the cops would always mess with us because they didn't know surfers could swim in those conditions. Crazy to see how much social media has blown the scene up but nothing is new :) Love it

It's amazing how many people surf over there, and how stoked they are about the whole surf scene. It reminds me of the good old days in the U.S. (You're a little too young to remember those days). As long as you had a surf board and a way to the beach (many times used the thumbs up method and jumped in the back of a pickup truck) life was good. We didn't have any money but it was the best time of my life (just surfing with my friends everyday). Yewww

you got really lucky.. Songjong only goes off like that a few times a year.. and your trip was too short.. you should have went Jeju.. there are some really good spots to find down there.. But really happy you got to come surf Busan!!

My first time ever surfing was in Okinawa during a typhoon. Actually got up & rode it in. Then the clean up set rolled in. My mates (from NJ) caught what they could, but a couple boards got away & smashed on the jacks. Ended my first paddle out. Hooked me for life. Never got to ride in Korea. We were always in the mountains in Korea.

@@Inokea Mostly pictures from Seoul which looks beautiful , but isnt my thing. All of the amazing countryside and beaches however are what I prefer. Before this when I thought of going to Asia I really only considered Thailand but South Korea is right up there with it now.

@@gregbeasley2657 I lived there 3 years, the surf sucks lol. Managed to surf 1 time living in Seoul. The cities are nice and very safe compared to the West but it has it's own set of problems. I do really like Jeju-do but it's a hassle getting down there and the swells are super fickle and gutless. If you live there it's way easier to fly to Bali and score.

Dude I love seeing you score in Korea. I live in China as an expat and during typhoon season we always go to Jeju Korea for some sick waves like you wouldn’t believe. Come to China, have a sick spot south of Shanghai called Zhujiajian where we opened the first surf club. Typhoon it barrels
