Is there a way to check for a jumped tooth without getting timing chain cover off? Would long screwdriver to find tdc on cyl1 and then checking that phasers / cams are aligned work, or is it finding tdc with a screwdriver not precise enough to find like one jumped tooth?

When the pentastars run they are awesome. The day the warranty expires good luck.

What is the "Flat Rate" way to do it? We all know that there are several ways to do the job. Thank you for the video sir.
@OnlineMechanicTips4 жыл бұрын
Hey bud, the actual job can be done either way. Let me answer it like this, I would have been all about speed and would have done it my way..As long as the engine results are the same, that's what matters

Warranty flat rate is about 5 hrs to replace 1 head , without removal timing cover ,
@OnlineMechanicTips4 жыл бұрын
Warranty pays 8 to 9 hours labor for bank 2..there is no option pay for removing timing cover because its factored in. You suppose to remove cover on either side

How much would you charge for labor to change out 1 lifter for a customer for side work? Let's say its on the rear bank and camshafts are fine.

It's hard for me to give estimates like that bud with even my personal customer..keep in mind you will be responsible if that fix it or not..let me say this, if it was a close relative ide ask for $200 for what you mention

Hi, my 2015 wrangler 3.6l gave P0019 and P0018. I removed the front cover and found that it jumped timing on bank 2 because the plastic guide broke up, my question is would the valves have bent ? I have ordered a new timing chain kit , but im keen to know
@OnlineMechanicTips3 жыл бұрын
whoaaa, its had to say buy easy to determine. If you have the valve train already apart and want to see if a valve was hit or smashed. Just do a air pressure test. If the cylinder in question not leaking down, you should be good.. Are you subscribed to the channel?
@nishalnaidoo54243 жыл бұрын
@@OnlineMechanicTips thanks for the super fast reply!!! I am indeed a subscriber i follow all your videos. I own a small time workshop in South Africa and learn alot from you!!! I'm unable to do a air pressure test , I have a compression tester but most of the electrical is disconnected because I had to remove the parts for working space. I looked through the intake ports and the valves look fully closed. The cams also look good. Another thing I wanted to find out is after I reassemble everything do I have to do a cam/crank relearn procedure before I start the jeep? I do not have a dealer level scanner. I'd really appreciate your help as you are the best!!! Do you have any videos where you discuss the pentastar and if it is a interference engine etc? I see the pistons have pockets for the valves. Thank you.

Unrelated and I know this goes against everything I've heard but have you ever done a full transmission flush on any of your vehicles?

short answer, No. Im a big fan of the transmission service procedures. That way that filter gets replaced.

Just got my 2015 T&C with the 3.6 back from dealer, they replaced bad lifter and camshaft and phaser do to damage from lifter. But it's still making same ticking sound. What gives?

I got a question that you may be able to help me with. I went to replace rocker arms on my 2014 journey 3.6, I cheated slightly and tried to use a plastic brush handle to lift the phaser on the bank 2 back into place. Upon doing so it snapped. I dropped the broken piece which is about 1"×1/2" down in the timing cover. Am I able to just remove the pan and scope up for it? Or do I need to remove the front cover? If I need to remove the cover can I avoid pulling motor from car?
@OnlineMechanicTips6 ай бұрын
Whoa, did you get this out?
@twiztid6646 ай бұрын
@OnlineMechanicTips not yet debating on how I should approach, should I pull motor topside? Or can I remove the timing cover while still in vehicle?

What do you recommend a good service interval for the transmission? 30k? I service a fleet of caravans and I've seen a few have had slipping and incorrect gear ratio codes at about 120k

Hey bud, thanks for watching..Those Caravans you speak of likely have the 62TE 6 speed trans installed. The service manual recommend service at 60k..I typically do my personal customer cars at about 50k.

Why not rebuild the hold engine? I also have the famous Penastar tick. Old school hot rodder in the 1970's would not replace just one head on a engine. They would rebuild the whole engine.

3:45 You actually don't have to remove the oil pan. You just need to remove those five bolts that bolt the oil pan to the timing cover. Now, the manual instructs you to remove the oil pan, but again, not actually necessary. Just those five bolts.
@OnlineMechanicTips3 жыл бұрын
How are you going to get to the timing cover bolts if the 2 piece oil pan not removed? NO, you do not have to remove the complete oil pan assembly, just the black small one
@armaletalia32543 жыл бұрын
@@OnlineMechanicTips Take a look. This pic is from today. I removed timing cover without removing any oil pan, whether upper or lower. There's five bolts that fasten the timing cover to the upper oil pan, and they are accessible without removing the oil pan. Just slide under Jeep and remove. Then just remove the 22 other fasteners on the front of the timing cover. So, if you're doing head work, no need to remove oil pans. imgur.com/gallery/Abh2u7h

@@armaletalia3254 Hey bud, take a hard look at the video again. But please note, some models have a 2 piece oil pan. The vehicle you working on likely uses a 1 piece oil pan.
