Typical 💻 Day In My Life As A Software Engineer (Manager - What I Do Every Day)

Today I’m going to walk you through an actual work day from me in January 2023 as an Engineering Manager with all the details about the meetings that I had, the individual work I did and how I felt at the end of the day. Lots of people in the industry wonder what I do in my role so today I’ll share this with full transparency.

10am: Catching up with messages
10:30am: Checking my calendar
10:45am: Work on ToDo List
11:00am: My Meeting Hours start
11:45am: Continue with ToDo List
12:00pm: Lunch
12:30pm: Incident Management Review
1:00pm: Review of the 20 page roadmap
1:30pm: 1:1 with other Engineering Manager
1:45pm: 15 min break - YAY!
2:00pm: 1:1 with junior engineer
2:30pm: Another 1:1, this time with a Tech Lead
3:00pm: I take a quick break to align my thoughts
3:58pm: I receive a text from a friend asking if I’m still joining for dinner at 6pm.
4:00pm: Another meeting. This time my teams weekly meeting
4:30pm: I work on my ToDo List for the next day and answer messages
5:00pm: My last meeting - a technical deep dive
5:30pm: ToDo List
5:45pm: leave office
