biscuit is a french word = biscotto in italian and both mean tiwce (bis that comes from latin) cooked (cuit, cotto) in this case baked because usually (not always) you have to bake them twice to achieve the crunchiness

@@barbs. Even with the nutella and almond filling the sweetness of the cornetti is still very subtle - one of my favorite things about them... I am going to try the other two recipes eventually too - and will post comments when I do... but now my girlfriend and I have a bunch of cornetti in the freezer ready to go when we want a breakfast treat! Thanks again... don't worry too much about using biscuit and cookie interchangeably if it feels unnatural - I think most Americans watching your channel would understand what a European means when they refer to 'biscuits'...

That's so cool you baked all that from scratch, wow!! I honestly have not seen some of those here in America even in Italian bakeries, its cool to see what you guys really eat. The biscotti's we have in America are more cut the long way, often not in the cookie form and not with apricot in between that's very interesting. We drink our coffee more dark here too with just a little bit of cream.

Happy to learn!! 😙☕🍪 It's so cool to have these kinds of "cultural exchanges".. especially when it's about pastries and breakfast hahah! I'm thinking of coming to the US for a few weeks soon, so I can't wait to dive into the real American lifestyle and learn what it's like 🎉 Also, I'll have to go to some Italian bakeries and teach them how to make Biscotti Occhio di Bue then!! 😂
@counterstrike89
@counterstrike89 3 жыл бұрын
@@barbs. Well you could probably teach us for sure, wouldn't surprise me, honestly the best places I've seen are closest to Italy like in Boston and surrounding areas. Like say, if you eat pizza outside Boston, or away from NY, its pretty bad. But I do wonder how much it differs, for pastry we have things like Éclair s, creampuffs, cannoli's, little rum cakes, yellow cream puffs so you wonder if Americanized being blended with other cultures like the French and British all slightly changes the American Italian foods, .....probably. But I do admire you guys, and how old world Europe is less processed, and you eat more meat and vegetables, which is healthier too. Would be cool to see old world Italy recipes as well.
@barbs.
@barbs. 3 жыл бұрын
@Counter Strike You made me think of a popular Italian novel (that kind of novel they make you study at school) called "Il gattopardo", that tells the story of an important Sicilian family during the second half of the 19th century -right when Italy was being united under the same crown. There's this moment where a big dinner party is served at their house, and all the main courses are described in detail: they had a huge French influence and almost didn't look like our "nowadays food tradition" at all. Crazy, right? 😯 I mean, the way cultures influence each other and leave a mark is really magical: we're all connected to each other and, in the end, we all live under the same big sky 🌱 .. sorry, I got a little off-track here 😅
@counterstrike89
@counterstrike89 3 жыл бұрын
@@barbs. I totally agree, the origins of different foods and their cultures is very cool, but I think the uniqueness and individualness of each people and country is also really neat, and in Europe I think you guys are not as blended as Americans are, but at the same time, even here, and I think Canada as well, the Italians still keep many of their traditions and pass them down with in the family.

OK I finally made ciambellone, but I must admit that I used a slightly different recipe mixed with yours - this other recipe didn't require a meringue with the eggs and sugar - just a smooth, yellow mixture of eggs and sugar - then oil and yogurt... I added in the lemon and orange zests and made it chocolate/regular mix like yours... it came out wonderful... thanks so much for introducing these cool recipes!

What she did with the ciambellone was very much Italian step to make a sabbione with eggs and sugar super whipped up first. I think that’s the secret to the texture of her cake. Also her use of flour is very Italian technique - see how much goes in till the texture is right. Americans need the recipe in cups to bake something. She’s going by feel on her pastry 🥐 Very much an Italian grandma 👵 way. I love it! It’s was more organic, dynamic and honestly less fussy with fewer bowls and spoons and cups and scales than most American or French recipes, lighter too. I can’t believe she made cornetti in half a day. The French way takes 2 -3 days! Nobody has time for French pastry making at home. The Italian way looks great 👍🏻 I love the brown sugar choice. Thanks 🙏🏻 much for the inspiration! 🇮🇹☕️

I'd say the rule is starting to expire.. if you now go to a barista at a café at 4pm and you ask for a cappuccino, they won't blink an eye and they'll make your cappuccino straight away, as they're starting to get more and more familiar with this new habit! ☕️ I myself often have cappuccino in the afternoon!! 🙈

Hey. Yes that’s how I like to start my day! I’d love to see a proper….whatever that word was you said…pastry shop? 😂 I really want to know, what is Sfogliatella? Because we have this Italian coffee shop here in Leeds called La Bottega Milanese and the pastry I thought was called sfogliatella is called paticcini there?? I want to order the right thing when I finally get to visit Italy again 😀
@barbs.
@barbs. 3 жыл бұрын
@chris davis Hahahahah 😂 Sfogliatella belongs to the Neapolitan tradition -it's made with fried puff pastry, it has cream in the inside and the shape reminds you of a lobster tail.. kinda 😆 On the other hand, pasticcini is just a generic word to call every sweet "treat" (cookie/biscuit/cake/cupcake/whatever) that's small enough to be eaten in a few bites! For example, a small sfogliatella could be defined as a pasticcino, so maybe that's why they called it that way! .... Does this make any sense? 🙈

Actually, there are a lot of Italians who enjoy savory breakfasts. So many of us embraced healthy eating habits for good by now, and we distanced ourselves from the refined carbs in pasta and pizza Italy is (wrongly) best known for. So, what's being shown on this channel is a personal choice of the content creator: family-style, quite outdated eating habits and recipes. You eat like this until you move out of your parents' house. This lifestyle doesn't represent the majority over here
