"Typical Nazi Trickery" | Operation Greif 1944

During Thousands of years of war there has always been trickery, probably one of the best examples is the Battle for Troy, where they used a wooden horse to trick the enemies which eventually led the city to fall, During world war 2 a version of this was tried as well, maybe not with a wooden horse but you get the point, one of these operations was operation Greif and this happened during the battle of the bulge, the idea was to disguise German troops with American and British Equipment. Afterwards then cross the Meuse and try to capture as many brigades as possible

There's a good film well worth watching with Van Johnson called "The Last Blitzkrieg". Set during the battle of the bulge, Johnson plays a Nazi soldier sent behind enemy lines with a group of commandos disguised as American soldiers. Their objective to disrupt the allied advance.

The operation had some effect on US rear area troops as you've mentioned. You should have mentioned that everybody wearing an enemy uniform looses its combattant status and thus counts as "partisan" or "terrorist" and was to be shot on the spot. Legally. IIRC the USA tried to war trial Skorzeny and his men after the war for this operation but it was through British intervention that they weren't sentenced. The British did a lot of these covered ops themselves. You also should have gone more into detail about Skorzeny himself, who although being a Nazi was a fascinating character after all. After the war he worked for Franco, the CIA and Mossad. Apart from his ideology, he certainly falls into the same category as "Mad" Jack Churchill and the SAS gentlemen.
