In this video I wanted to show you our apartment in a Russian nine-story building. It's outdated and definitely needs some renovations as well as most Russian apartments, so I think that this is a very typical place to live in Russia. Join me if you want to know more about our lifestyle.

Your grandparents' apartment looks very warm and cozy. I love some of the pretty details like the light fixtures and the square shapes on the ceiling. The china cabinets are lovely, too. The faucet that moves from the tub to the sink is really cool. I've never seen one like that. Thank you for sharing the tour with us. Stay warm. 🙂

It’s good that you pray, only there will be no sense in this. The US is fomenting this war, like others. Russia will stop fascism in Ukraine. I live in Crimea and the situation is very close to me. I don’t understand that the Americans forgot thousands of kilometers from their home.

@@user-hz8eg3wl2l I understand your frustration about the war, and maybe our country is just trying to not get involved in another wa_r. Even though we are in a proxy war. Khrushchevki were built specifically by the most unassuming in order to quickly resettle people from basements, communal apartments, barracks after the war. People were happy. Now no one remembers or even knows about it. And all sorts of ridicule begins. It's stupid.

My grandparents also had a China Cabinet (which is what we called it) and they put smart tea sets, or things they regarded as pretty and valuable, in it, here in South Africa. You can still find these cabinets in antique stores all over South Africa. Sometimes the Cabinet itself was regarded (and still is) as valuable if, for example it was made from a good kind of wood and had distinguishing features such as 'ball and claw' feet. I love antiques, (maybe I'm one myself), so I wouldn't mind owning a ball and claw China Cabinet with all kinds of antique China in it. It's actually expensive. 😊 Greetings from South Africa (I have subscribed). 🇿🇦

How is your name George Walker - it is so not Russian. LOL, please explain. I'm very familiar with building design and construction. One of the very interesting things about the soviet era block apartment complexes is their use of "district heating". It would be awesome for you to explain that. There is one central plant for the heating and it goes underground to several apartment blocks by the use of hot water pipes, usually. It is very efficient and allows the bills for energy to be kept low. Right?

Hi, in the beginning of the video you say that your apartment complex is a Kruschevka and define it as a building with 9 stories and go on to say that if a building was built with one more floor it would have to have an elevator. This is wrong however, a Krushevka is a building with 5 floors built under Kruschevs time. A building with one more floor would be a Brezhenvka since buildings with more than 5 floors would be built under Brezhnev (usually 9) and would include elevators and garbage chutes as opposed to Kruschevkas.

The light-green colour (or turquoise?) of the stairwell seems to be beloved soooo much... since the 1970s (?). I was growing in USSR and our stairwell had the same color. My parents painted their "dacha" this color, too. For the life of me, I don't understand the attachment of the Russians to this color - ??? The "don't sh*t into the trash chute" could be a joke to the Russians but really comes across as a sign of some cultural psychological defect... Common spaces treated as places to spit, urinate, and take sh*t, while personal apartments are touchingly taken care of... savagery.
