The Shadow of the Warp had emerged from Universes Beyond first Warhammer 40k Precon - Tyranid Swarm - and this Hive Fleets HQ Choice, the Swarmlord, will be leading this savage brood for Xenos from the front to destroy and consume all in its path.
In this quick precon upgrade, we'll be aiming to refine what the core build is already good at, namely +1/+1 counter generation, bug creatures, and X spells. And luckily for us, Temur has no shortage of support for all 3 of these categories - giving us plenty of Hydra's to add in along the core builds Ravenous Tyranids for that sweet, scalable growth along with plenty of payoffs for our counter laden and/or big creatures to either net us value or make them even deadlier. And with the Hive Fleet evolved with these new adaptations, our opponents creatures and life totals will be reduced to bio-matter for the Hive Fleet with merciless efficiency.

One card that i like a lot is Ride the Avalanche, i have it in my current build for my Swarmlord and the look on peoples faces when they see the huge and technically 7/7 come down as a 13/13, i also expand on the counter distribution by adding in things that give different kinds of counters like Titanoth rex and slippery bogbonder to help out the SwarmLord to survive, and frankly you can become a target with this deck, and i love it.

Ride the Avalanche is quite a fun addition - at least for us since our opponents likely won't appreciate having a 13/13 be flashed in on them out of nowhere. And yeah, extra forms of protection can certainly find a home here, both to protect The Swarmlord itself and our X creatures that we've pumped a lot of mana into!

I'd also recommend the ozolith, wich i was kinda surprised that you didn't include into the deck, to be able to save the counters that your creatures have when they die to be able to redistribute it.

Understandable - when I bought my set they were about $40 - 45 each and now their up to $65 a pop, which is a bit much even for me. And glad to hear you enjoyed the shorter format - I've been looking to release some shorter form content and this seemed like a perfect way to try that out!

Novijen Sages (albeit expensive at 6) provides us more draw. Also there’s the megamorph mechanic from Dragons of Tarkir..for our colours, Stratus Dancer, Den Protector and potentially Deathmist Raptor are of interest

I did not think of Novijen Sages when building this, but it would be a good way to turn the counters on creatures that we would lose anyway to removal into draw (since we can do this in response). Megamorph creatures are also an interesting suggestion - providing additional utility to the build that with their morph effects.

Do you think Hadana's Climb would be an upgrade in a deck like this or Halana and Alena? I guess it only boosts one creature at a time, but at that size it may be all you need. I know there are some other options for adding flying, but this seems more difficult to get rid of once it flips, which you can do on the same turn you cast it.

I already had a bit of a counters matter deck, so for this one I decided to lean into the X spells with the alternative commander Magus Lucea Kane; I felt the Swarmlord to be a bit underwhelming with it's lack of evasion even if the draw seemed good, having played against the unmodified Tyranid deck during the weekend. I do have some of the same upgrades coming for my deck that you used in this, but with more hydras and X spells in place of some of the counter payoffs. :) Still waiting for the cards to arrive so I can test it out in games, and if it turns out not to work as well on cardboard as it does in my mind, I might give this build a try... also will probably buy couple of the cards you mentioned here to add into my Chishiro deck even if the X-deck does work.

That is perfectly fair, Magus Lucea Kane is a very solid commander in her own right and the other card in the precon that don't fit her playstyle can certainly find good homes in other decks (since there are lots of good new/reprinted cards in these precons).

Love this series. I happen to have a Ruinous Powers deck but I am more interested in Be'lakor as a commander over Abaddon. I'd like to see your take on a Be'lakor Demon Tribal especially since the deck has plenty of demons to work with.

For these precon upgrades I'll be doing the face commander for all of them, but maybe I'll run a poll with all the alternate commanders for the decks and do either a quick precon, full precon, or stand alone upgrade/build for them.... No promises, but I do like the sound of that!

Magus Lucea Kane would certainly make for a fun build around but sadly I do not have the time at the moment between my IRL responsibilities and the channels regular releases. Maybe when I have more time and can start tackling commanders I missed from previous sets.

I play Magus Lucea Kane as my commander, and you could honestly switch her in for the Swarmlord from just this build and the power would immediately spike. She's way better than the Swarmlord who is really expensive and kinda just sits there getting chump blocked. A lot of these additions are already great with her, and you can swap out some of the cards that only give a few counters and lean more heavily into X-spells and do just fine.

Gotta say, this sure was a nice video, especially since it properly fixes the deck, instead of it being seemingly built around the Swarmlord dying to the most random stuff (which is surprisingly accurate to the lore, funnilt enough). Also hey, next up is Chaos Control, led by Shadow the Hedgehog! Perfectly fitting if I dare say so myself. Day 414 of waiting for the Grazzet Face Reveal. If you could have a Space Marine Legion, what would it be like? For me, it would probably be a legion based around the Gopniks of Russian meme history.

Thematically I always enjoyed the Iron Hands (love the cybernetics), so maybe something that leans into that but even more, like a combination of Space Marines and Adeptus Mechanicus for the Space Marine flavor with the Mechanicus tech.

Glad you enjoyed it! Honestly I feel the same - these decks are so flavorful that it really does hurt me to take them apart... No plans currently but if these shorter form content style works well, I may tackle older precons in this style (I know a few folks have asked me to).

I just hate that these decks are ao unfocused. You really dont need expensive cards to make a focused deck, it drives me nuts. At the same time are These precons a little special that I feel bad if I upgrade them

I agree that some of these are unfocused (the Chaos one if definitely all over the place, but I guess that fits thematically) but this one and the Necron's one seem to have pretty cohesive playstyles out of the box (at least from my experiece). Any yeah, it actually pained me to remove cards from these, since the new art and cards all looked so cool.... I may need to get alters done of the upgrades to match the rest of the precon if decide to build this one in paper!

@@GrazzetMTG I think these are some of the better precons definetely and the necron one I agree. In this one I was especially disappointed in the izzet legend, I mean... one dmg. Very cool card but what the hell, why is it in this deck. No Synergie whatsoever except the creature type.

I completely forgot Kodama of the West tree existed, need to add that. Other than that our upgrades had similarities which I like because how you upgrade and build is around the power level I like to stay at.

Thanks for the feedback! In this build, I do not think Foodchain would get enough millage - since it exiles it doesn't proc our commanders draw and while our X cost creatures CMC on the field is quite low, so we wouldn't be getting that much mana out of it.

Would I be wrong in assuming you could swap swarmlord with lucea kane with this build? She just seems much stronger providing added ramp and copying all X spells that the deck is loaded with.

I think you could run Magus Lucea Kane as the commander in this build and the build would still work, though personally I think she would be better in a build that goes all in on X instead a hybrid build like this one to maximize the value she provides.

While I can see the argument to run it in this build, I would counter with that (in my opinion) this version of the build doesn't have a critical mass of X spells to make this reliable enough to use. However, in a build with Magus Lucea Kane at the helm and add in even more X spells it would be fantastic.
