The king on the painting could also be an "ancestor" to Lysandre or "descendant" to AZ's brother. This would make it possible for the similarity to AZ to exist because it probably would be in his brother's genes as well .AND it would also mean that Lysandre's ancestors too were motivated(just like him) to make the world more beautiful(through Parfum Palace)and bringing back the whole theme of gen 6 being about "beauty". This is something that I’ve been thinking about for a while but, What if in the new legends ZA, you are the son of AZ(or a descendant) and heir to Kalos. It takes place after the war, luminous city could have been destroyed in the war and the people are in disarray, which could also explain why there’s a re-development plan(to rebuild the city). But since your character is too young to rule yet, and kinda unfamiliar with the people because you grew up sheltered on royal grounds, you decided to go to luminous city to help rebuild it while simultaneously getting the support of the people; making a name for yourself

King AZ is listed to have an [supposed] age of at least 3.000 years. That event chronologically could place him in the Celtic inhabitance of Gallia [modern France minus Corsica and the Mediterranean Areas known as Septimanie]. It had been completed by 500 B.C. The Greek settlers who founded Marseille, Nice, Arles and Monaco arrived at that particular time during the Second Era of Colonization [800-700 BC]. What if AZ is actually a member of those colonizers who came to Kalos around 2800-3000 years ago and aspired to conquer everything, just like how the Romans did everything in their power to defeat and to capitulate the Gauls ?

1/ The Parfum Palace is not just a reference to Le Chateau de Versaille, but also, by it's purpose, to Le Palais du Louvre (Nowadays known as Le Musée du Louvre), wich was the palace Louis 13th fled. I checked out the other musuem of Kalos, but there's nothing interesting there. 2/ The king painted is most likely based on Louis 14th, le Roi Soleil. Most likely scenario is that Az had no descendant, but that this king descend from his younger brother. 3/ The closest contemporary known relative of AZ is Lysandre, whose name (and hair cut) is a reference to the Fleur de Lys, symbol of the french monarchy.

Or what if they were twin sons of his and both want the throne for different reasons (one good and one evil) and now AZ is forced to pick between them at the end. or if one kid was so hell bent on getting the throne and putting in so much effort for it but the other son that doesn’t want anything to do with the throne and wants to be a free spirit ended it up with it.

okay so.. if we're to take the line in the English release of The Teal Mask from Kieran seriously - that the great-great-great-grandfather of his great-great-great-grandfather was the mask maker who met Ogerpon and her partner, then these events would have happened *about 300 years ago* (say one generation is 30 years long - the time described according to the number of fathers is 10 generations ago, and that's where the number comes from) here's where my guess comes in - i think the partner Ogerpon was travelling with was AZ, as he was notably tall in the illustration of the story, which may have been the reason he scared all the people of Kitakami if true, AZ would have been absent from Kalos completely around the time of the building of Parfum Palace
