The most widespread vertebrate predators of subterramundus are theropod dinosaurs. Of these, it is the tyrannosaurs that have managed to stay at the top of the food chain. But these new kings are not the descendants of giants like tyrannosaurus or tarbosaurus…
Discover the different species of tyrannosaurs that call Subterramundus their home, and explore their various intricacies and secrets.

Loving the detailed descriptions of the animals ecology and the accompanying illustrations. The music in the intro is also especially good. If there's anything to criticise, it's probably the similarity to Kaimere, but you've still done a good job of making Subterramundus feel distinct despite the stylistic overlap.

Thank you very much! I admit much of my later designs were to some extent inspired by kaimere, but I am trying to make it more distinct, especially when it comes to mesofauna like multituberculates and smaller pterosaurs.

I'm really loving this series so far! I think the only problem I'm having with it right now is the fact that it looks like every creature here has unnecessary amounts of spikes and such on their bodies. I can understand it somewhat for the Tyrannosaurs but for some of the other creatures shown in this video, it feels like they've been overdesigned with the spikes and such on their bodies and I'm struggling to see how all these different species evolved to have these things.
@TheWorldmaker-nr2gl
@TheWorldmaker-nr2gl 3 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, I admit I have a bit of a thing for spiky horns and crests. You can put it down to sexual or runaway selection. Subterramundus has abundant resources allowing herbivores to get big. Large herbivores means a carnivore has to be fit and able-bodied to take them down. Excessive (or brightly coloured) keratin is clear proof a male has a lot of abundant nutrients to convert into horns and colours and would make a great partner. Tough predators means that a herbivore with large impressive horns will be a great mate as he can drive them off better than those with smaller horns. Extra spiky horns/crests also serve as an additional deterrence as many points to get stabbed by is generally best avoided. However this is not always the case and some dinosaurs send their message with colours and physical displays instead.

I have a question about how it is there in terms of temperature and how deep the caves are
@TheWorldmaker-nr2gl
@TheWorldmaker-nr2gl 3 ай бұрын
In the introduction video I state that the caves are no deeper than the ocean, still within the continental crust but deep enough to be separate from the world above. as to temperature, the false "sun" provides a lot of warmth to the caverns that is countered by cold rainy nights, resulting in the overall climate being generally warm and humid, although the deeper you go, the cooler it gets as you move away from the false "sun".

@@TheWorldmaker-nr2gl Stop! Before you go it's important to remember that this whole "males are flashier" thing isn't really a rule in nature as much of is coincidence that repeats itself in our present natural context. If the female has to carry the offspring with or inside her, or provides an indispensable nutrient source like milk, unfertilized eggs and pap, fair enough, there's a higher change of the males being the 'show-off' gender. BUT, if the female can get fertilized and outsource the survival of the young to other individuals, this could lead to a female that becomes larger in order to produce more offspring and more 'showy' to acquire one or more partners willing to foster her young. Maybe it would result in 'queens' that without breeding rights within their packs or 'rogue females' that specialize in preying on males that already were raising other's young. Good real world examples to base your ideas on are: Merecats, waterbugs, raptors and some spider species. For videos I can recomend Unnatural History Channel's take on the Mer from Primeval and Biblaridion's 15th episode of Alien Biospheres focused on the Neotecton species.

They usually die from their prey. Those that grow up watching their parents or siblings hunt get a better understanding of how certain prey works and of the risks involved in taking down tough animals. Even those that only grow up hunting small thescelosaurs and sauropodlets with their older siblings have a better chance at taking down sauropods and ceratopsians than loners do.

Just a suggestion but having maybe a even larger titanosaur that is a generalist. This means everything is on it's menu. Animals, plant or even rotting corpses. It had sharp teeth down it's through to rip and tear while it just swallows thing whole due to it's size and not chewing. It's diet could be tree leaves/bark, carrion/dead bodies, flying pterosaurs, and maybe even therosaurs that mistake it for the smaller herbivore titanosaur. But overall lovely video, all of the big theropods remind me of yuty my fav carni, and your titanosaur design is just AAAAAA 10/10
