Just for context: 1 tonne = 1000 kilograms = 1.102 short/US tons = 0.984 imperial tons. The new estimates says 10.4 tonnes for the paratype Giganotosaurus carolinii specimen (MUCPv-95) from a guy who is not a scientist nor a paleontologist (Darknix) who contacted Dan Folkes about this and gave measurements, and keep in mind this is from an extremely fragmentary specimen, literally just a partial dentary so I would be careful around this estimate. Scotty (RSNM P2523.8) is 10,400kg - 11,000kg (Most likely in between 10,600kg and 10,800kg). So I would go with the reliable estimate of the holotype Specimen of Giganotosaurus which is most likely 7,800kg or but possibly up to 9,021kg. No one else has seconded the paratype estimate, I don't think anyone even seconded the 9 tonne estimate for the holotype. 15 tonne Tyrannosaurus is still very possible, but just as unreliable. I think Tyrannosaurus has to be bigger as its skeletal structure can support more weight than a Carcharodontosaurid build, it would not evolve this skeleton if it did not require it. A 10.4 tonne Giganotosaurus would change alot in a fight with Tyrannosaurus: Giganotosaurus has proportionally smaller leg muscles, so if it was the same weight as Tyrannosaurus, it would now be slower, and Tyrannosaurus was already more agile than an 8 tonne Giganotosaurus so Tyrannosaurus will continue to be more agile than a 10.4 tonne Giganotosaurus. Tyrannosaurus is more bulky and robust eith lots of muscle which gives it stability and strength. So in a way, this size buff disadvantages the Giganotosaurus. In conclusion, we shouldn't jump to conclusions by taking a brand new theory as fact just because Dan Folkes had it in his blog, he didn't even say it was correct, he said "If this estimate proves more correct, Giganotosaurus ties in with Tyrannosaurus as the largest theropod in weight." We need more evidence.

You know I love t rex but giga and carcha are a bit underrated in my opinion. They dont need the crushing bite force cause their teeth are better suited for slashing. They had powerful necks to pull their had and shake to tear up their prey. They are faster and more agile than the rex. Its a very different kind of animal even though they look similar the fight could go either way in my opinion.
