Thank you Mr. Streamer. You are making the game so much more enjoyable by actually teaching the mechanic as a whole instead of merely spitting the move name for the XYZ boss and how to behave for that specific fight. I am sure a lot of people are alright with those styles of guides but I honestly felt like dropping the whole idea of dropping hard content for my future coz I can't memorize fight on a minute by minute basis

Interesting! I play on JP servers, and the people that move for the protean stack in particular are the DPS. (E9S spread to stack and E11S both)

its an NA thing, in EU dps always adjust for stacks, but we mostly copy JP strats for PF :D

Welp, in my static we call the "protean spread" a "clock spread" and the "protean stack" an "X stack". (if it was the opposite, the DPS rotating counter-clockwise to meet the tanks/healers, it'd be a "cross stack"). While calling things by the name of the first mech that looks like it makes sense to people who've SEEN those mechanics back in the day, as it's familiar to them, as time goes by many more people come into the game, and to those people who weren't around when those mechanics were current, those names have absolutely no meaning at all. So, it's way better to call strats by generic terms that say something to EVERYBODY, than by something that only gives a recall to a few veterans.

I think the point of the video is the terms the majority of the playerbase uses. If a new player joins a party finder and somebody is saying protean positions, they now know what is being spoken about. There are other names also of course but it’s a FFXIV specific name that honestly gets used a tonne. Same with Dynamo and chariot

What exactly is the difference between protean and earth shaker? It seems like the same mechanic to me. Bait the line aoe, move out of it. Exactly what you did for the protean spread.

For EA you simply have to not stack, whereas for PS you have to bait it in a specific manner sometimes (bait then double stack etc.). But I agree that they are pretty similar in essence

It kind of depends on the fight. Protheans are pretty much always baited, so your clock position is usually static. With earthshakers there's more variety. In the fight he showed they appear randomly on ppl's head so you need to adapt and move to the right spot, in other fights they're sometimes tankbusters, etc. The one thing I would take away with earthshakers is recognising the marker and don't overlap. Then you've already identified at least 90% of the mechanic.
