The best and comprehensive explanation of tyre pressure and tyre width. Great and easy to understand charts. Professional testers say that 25 width, has the lowest roll resistance, for road bikes. Great job!!

I been tinkering around with this same subject for a couple of months now. in training i been using heavy specialized armadillo 28c tires at 90 psi and Im about 190 pounds heavy and its been a real good feel. especially on the rough roads and pot holes here in Hawaii on Oahu. And I dont' know if it plays a role...but since buying the 28c armadillos two months ago I havent had any flats either. previously i been using 25c at 110 - 115 psi which felt very rough on all roads. glad you made this video.

I just started my own tire pressure test today. Primary test bed 10 miles on a 1/4 mile concrete track. I'm loading the resulting FIT files into Golden Cheetah. Controlling as many variables as possible. I tested 60 psi today and was positively surprised at the results. (I normally run 110.) I will probably test 120psi tomorrow.

yep. 90-100psi, 25mm tires for me for the past 4 years. sometimes even lower when riding the dirt roads around Boulder. I RARELY flat.
@VeloVegan
@VeloVegan 7 жыл бұрын
yeahh i find flats are pretty rare, unless its a proper big hole that would flat the tyre no matter what the pressure!

I notice most cyclists use the same pressure front and back. Makes no sense when weight distribution is like 65/35.
@VeloVegan
@VeloVegan 7 жыл бұрын
yeah i read its between 55-65 % weight on back depending on person. I tend to run a little higher in rear tire due to this. I do remember reading one article saying for handling this is not optimal, I'm not really sure why though and unfortunately after a quick browse i can't find the source.

My thinking is that if your bike is understeering you may need to lower the front pressure in relation to the rear and if the bike is oversteering then lowering the rear tyre for more grip may be of benefit. Thoughts anyone?

That graph you presented at 7:40, actually in the text it mentions proportioning the pressures between front and back to match the loading.

I have a fat bike. 30 psi max is mentioned on the tyres. Should I go with 30 psi on smooth tarmac highway? I have seen in few videos that we should fill 10% less air than the max. Please suggest
@VeloVegan
@VeloVegan 5 жыл бұрын
yeah there are a few things that would come into play, tyre suppleness/tubeless set up etc. (more supple = lower pressures without energy loss, tubeless can run lower without fear of pinch flats) but if all your ridings on smooth roads you'd probably be fastest going on the harder end!

I used to run 55psi offroad on 27c Silk Clement Del Mundo tubs offroad. Never got flats until tire was near end of life. These days I do as little pavement as possible.

I ride roads only to get to trails. I dont use tires less than 32c and as large as 40c on my cx bikes. I’m running Clement Xplors ghetto tubeless anywhere from 25-50 psi. Practically no flats! ( excepting sidewall tear outs) Awesome traction and comfort!

I keep being told constantly that wider tires and less pressure is better. Except that the real world and common sense doesn't back this 'data' up, as there is actually plenty of contradictory data too. Some of this wider/lower data is actually manufacturer pro disk brake propaganda.
