Having used a few sets of Michelin before 'downgrading' to more value driven brands, there is no deny that they are probably the best in maintaining a more consistent performance as they age, even if its from their baseline XM2. Pity that they are now priced considerately higher than their competition.
@tctham2 жыл бұрын
i agree with you, they do not degrade much in terms of performance against treadwear. used michelin xm2, xm2+, and PS3. consistent performance throughout the range. you probably lose like 20% performance by the time you reach the last 10% of tread life.
@KonWaiLuen2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Consistent with my observations using PS3, PS4, Primacy 3, and Primacy 4.

You should find the RE004 has MUCH stiffer sidewalls than the Pilot Sport 4, for more direct and responsive handling and superior steering feedback. I really didn't like the Pilot Sport 4 ST, I found it extremely vague and floaty and I couldn't tell or predict what the tyres were doing (Civic Type R). Fitting PS4 was like an instant Honda Accord shock absorber conversion, it took all the fun out of the car. RE003 instantly restored stability and confidence, and the S007A was more of the same but with much more grip. I'm surprised the reviewer only thought the RE004 had 80 percent of the performance... On transient response is where the RE003 & S007A really shine as they have such a strong sidewall and are so predictable, I'd be surprised if the RE004 wasn't just as good and also superior to the PS4 and PS5 in that matter.... Heck, even the PS4S gets criticised for having a soft sidewall and a lazy turn-in, let alone the non-S, let alone the ST SE Asian version with even softer sidewalls.

Agree fully. It is a fact that Michelin is very much over-rated - especially if you want direct steering.
@BennnWJK Жыл бұрын
The reviewer is biased towards Michelin. The PS4 is a really soft tyre by UHP standards. Most of its mainstream rivals do handle better…

I've tried quite a number of ultra performance and semi-slick tyres throughout my motoring life and I feel RE004 has hits the spot being very reliable, good performance (wet and dry) at a price point that many of us don't feel the pinch. I even compared it with SA007A (made in Japan) and found very little difference on the road. Track application is something else, even PS4 or PS4S also ain't perfect for it. RE004 reminds me of the good old RE711 back in the days. For sure, it doesn't channel water like F1 SuperSport, offer amazing lateral grip like RS4, AD08R...it doesn't need to because at that price, I will keep on buying it for my road cars even China made ones are cheaper and worryingly so.

Hi Kon! If I were to upgrade my tires from the Michelin Energy XM2+ to the Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE004, would it be a good upgrade? May I know what's your opinion?

I have not experienced Yokohama tyres personally, but a friend familiar with the topic tells me that: 1. V701 has decent wet grip, but RE004 is better. 2. Both are quite noisy 3. Both also relatively low on treadwear rating
