with the addition of the continental sport contact 7 continental has proven that it can combine wet grip with dry grip in a way that blew your mind in your uhp test video. with the continental ultracontact NXT Continental wants to combine Wet grip(A), fuel efficency (A) and low noise (69 db). i cant wait for the test, i really hope you can test it soon, it will sell in europe in september already. I hope its good a dry breaking as well... if you cant say anything about it, maybe you can wink wether you test soon or not.

Do you test in Ivalo? Looks like the winter test track here. As a car person I was interested in working for the company. I run 3 sets of tyres here. Winter studded, Vredestien Quatrac 5 and summer tyres depending on alloys……Finland is complicated weather wise so I find 3 sets of tyres suit the car better.

I went from dailying RE71R to Falken RT660 to RE71RS on my 900 hp 4300 lbs sedan in 285/35/19 size (square setup) over the last few years. I absolutely love the RS and really don't notice any drawbacks in daily driving. One or two hard corners on the street is enough to get them sticky enough to put down a lot of power on corner exit or in a straight line. Neither Bridgestone wears as well as the Falken did, but the RS is at least as good as the R was and might even be better. The old RE71R tolerated the most overdriving of the 3 (at the expense of wear when you did overdrive it) while the RS is a little worse in that regard, but you can really feel when you've fed in too much steering on the front end. The Falken was not as communicative. Only a couple big rain storms with the RS, but no problem at 70 mph on the freeway with half tread depth or more left. Great tire so far.

Plus if you have a co-driver, the Yokohamas really limit how many "good" laps you'll get especially if the heat has very few drivers. Your first or second lap (depending on which driver went first) might actually be your best lap on a hot day. I haven't had that problem with the RE-71RS, once they get fired up (usually 1 lap) they give consistent grip throughout the rest of the day so you can really focus on your own driving instead of worrying about what state the tires are in.

I have tested the Potenza Race and it absolutely destroys the Cup2 in all terms (It is also a lot newer). It's as fast as the Pirelli Trofeo R, lasts longer than the Cup2 and because of the stronger sidewall, the wear is very uniform. 10/10 tire, only wish they made more sizes, but I'm sure that will come in due time.

It's kinda funny. I have been doing track and AX for about 20 years and just got my 1st set of RE71RS. On a cold 40F morning on the way to an AX event the tires made so much noise I thought I had a flat or picked up a screw or something. Got out, looked around and all was well. After a few miles the tires warmed up and felt more civilized. On the AX course they were brilliant and I was regularly in the top 3 for the day. On a big banked sweeper the noise came back and I thought it was strange but the times were great. Good day both days and on Sunday I manage FTD on corrected time. I think these are keepers!

I have Potenza sport on my 2019 Megan RS Trophy. It is really good honestly on the road, but never tested it on track as I have spare set of semies. The sport needs some temp in colder mornings but after that it is really good. Was a bit cheaper than the PS4S. What you say about the rim protection is absolutely true as they saved my wheels in two occasions big time, I was even surprised, as I installed spacers and the first couple of parkings where straight into the sidewalk :))). The only downside I find is that wears relatively quickly, but honestly with my driving style with TC off most of the time nothing lasts really so yeah...thanks bro for the review Will go for the race next based on your recommendation. Thanks for the great review, Jon, with your insightful commentary. Thanks also for publishing the weights of the tires, something very important to me; I've just gotten a set of forged magnesium wheels for my 370Z that will shave off about 9 lbs(4 kg) from the stock aluminum wheels. I just installed a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s and love them, in part because they're so light. I'll have to look at these tires more closely for my next set. I might seriously consider the RE-71RS, if it's not too heavy.

What wheel? That's a huge saving, I want to make a video on it.
@videomaniac108
@videomaniac108 Жыл бұрын
@@tyrereviews That is the Litespeed Racing RS5RR, a 5-split Y spoke with cutouts in the spokes for more weight savings. The wheels are CNC machined to whatever specs are required and you can get whatever color you want in gloss, satin or flat. You have a choice of materials from(heavier to lighter): standard forged aluminum, their proprietary forged aluminum, forged magnesium(the one I got) and a carbon fiber. The carbon fiber was only a miniscule amount lighter but was significantly more expensive. The wheels I got were the stock fitment for my Z: 19 x 9 - F & 19 x 10 R. The front wheels weighed exactly 14.2 lbs with the rears very slightly more. My stock Rays aluminum wheels weighed about 23 lbs, which was not bad for a wheel of this size. I verified the weight differences in looking at the different densities of aluminum and magnesium. My rear Michelin PS Cup 2 weighs about 6 lbs less than the OEM Bridgestone Potenza S007, so I've shaved about 15 lbs off the rear corner weight compared to what the car came with. In the near future, when I have to do a brake job on the car, I'm going to replace the one-piece all steel rotors with some Akebono two-piece ones with aluminum hats and take off an additional 10 lbs on the front and 5 lbs in the rear. Eventually, when all the excess unsprung mass is off, I will get some good coil overs that have separately adjustable compression and rebound damping and have the car corner balanced and the damping optimized for the lighter suspension. Some additional info: the manufacturing lead time is 2 months and the owner, Patrick, keeps you informed of the build process. He requires 50% down and the balance is payable after completion. The wheels were flawless, with no defects or damage whatsoever. The boxing and packing materials were first-rate, with the wheels amply protected from damage that might occur during shipping. One other point, the magnesium alloy used is not the same as the old alloys used years ago. This alloy comprises calcium and some other elements that make the magnesium self-extinguishing in case there is a source of ignition sufficient to ignite the metal. If the ignition source is removed the magnesium will not continue to burn; I wanted hot wheels but not that hot. This was a lengthy reply but I hope it was helpful. Keep up the good work on these fantastic tire reviews.

I have just installed the Potenza Sport on my BMW f22, what a great tyre as for steering response and directness, never experienced it from any other UHP tyre i have tried on this car . Didn't had the time to test it properly at and over the limits yet . Negative? well you pay for this directness in comfort, nothing horrible but it is clearly less comfortable than the GoodYear SS that it replaced, at the same pressure, and I guess the PS4s is even more comfortable. Since there are not many options in Europe for the f22 (225/40R18+245/35R18) I am very happy that Bridgestone makes these tyre in my sizes for a daily use car.

I have them on my F22 M240i as well since the beginning of march (235/40 R18 front and 245/40R18 rear). Only 5000 km (~ 3400 miles) so far, spirited driving and quite some highspeed autobahn runs up to 322 kph (~ 200 mph). Cold pressure 2 bar (~ 29 psi), warm around 2,2 to 2,3 bar (~ 32 to 33 psi). They need at least like 30 to 35 °C (86 to 95 °F) temp but then they bite and make a lot of fun. The downside is when they are cold, it's like on ice, the DSC is cutting power in the first four gears like crazy. So when the engine is warm, the tires are far from it and it sucks a little bit to wait for the temperature every time. In the rain you have to be a bit careful but you can still keep up with the traffic no problem. Overall, good tires, especially in the hot sommer months when they are almost immediately there.

Cool, great comparison. It is a shame you did not have a high-HP rear wheel drive car. From my experience with Bridgestone Potenza Sport on a BMW E92 (560HP), these tires did not impress me much. Very high wear and bad traction and braking capability. I replaced these with Yokohama A052 and boy the world shook and completely changed. The car is 100% more planted, breaks and accelerates so hard. On roads. Plus, with the Yokohama I got rid of the awful wheelhop. I do not know why but it is gone. I wanted the Potenza Race before.. but now I think I am staying with the Yokohama as the Race will probably be just a better Sport with worse warm-up.

That's why I went for Potenza Sport tires with a 300 treadwear rating and more tire depth. I've often wondered if I should've picked the RE71S tires for more fun on the road. From your review, it looks like the Potenza Sport is better for road driving, and I'm not missing out on anything. 😄 By the way, is there any chance that you could review the "Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS PLUS"? Everyone is saying that it's the best all-season tire for spirited driving, and I am quite surprised that Bridgestone has included an all-season tire in the Potenza series. I want to see how it performs compared to the Potenza sport for road driving. I know that an all-season tire is usually worse than a summer tire, but is the difference significant?

Here in the UK I can find retailers for the Sport (Black Circles) and the Race (Demon Tweeks), but nowhere can I find the RE-71RS. It's also not on the Bridgestone UK website. It would be another option for my Elise to add to the Toyo R88R and Nankang AR-1 options available to me. @tyrereviews, can you ask Bridgestone why they are not selling the RE71-RS over here? Can you then ask them if they have plans to do so?
@TassieLorenzo
@TassieLorenzo Жыл бұрын
The first two are made in Europe and are specifically designed and made for the European market, whereas RE71RS is made in Japan as far as I know. The latter might only be available from specialist motorsport tyre importers? Perhaps try the Yokohama Advan AD09 or A052, which should be available from Yokohama motorsport tyre dealers in the UK. A052 and RE71RS should be very comparable, with AD09 a little more road biased and harder wearing.
@EuropaSman
@EuropaSman Жыл бұрын
@tassielorenzo7070, yes the A052 is a Lotus recommended tyre for the track, which is an option, albeit they are quite expensive here in the UK and it's getting on a bit in terms of tyre design. Not many Elise owners here run that tyre. More are on the R888R. I've looked for the AD09 tyres, but it's a more road based UHP tyre, furthermore in the UK it's not available in Elise S2 fitment sizes. So that means the option avaliable are R888R, AR-1 and AO52, for semi slick track biased tyres. I had thought about the Accelera 651 Sport, but they seem to me to be more like the tyres I've already got that are Nankang NS2-Rs (a "50% road/50% track" kind of tyre). I'm more interested in a tyre like the RE-71RS which looks to be a good fourth option for sprint racing/time attack. @tyrereviews is meeting with Bridgestone, so why not ask the question I thought.

1:50 I want a firm to very firm sidewall (but don't drive a racecar!) so I'll just choose the Potenza S007A (still made in Japan as Bridgestone's Japan flagship) or Potenza RE004 road tyres with very firm sidewall for as long as they are still available. 🙂 I wish more road tyres still had very firm sidewalls but oh well... I took my 17" Potenza Sports off and swapped them for another set of Potenza S007A, as I didn't like the way the Sport felt like they were gliding (and almost floating) over the road on my favourite mountain road -- even though probably had more grip and were faster, some of the scrabbling for traction in bumpy parts of the road was completely gone! -- it felt a bit too disconnected for me. Ironically it was around town were I *really* didn't like their (admittedly very slight) numbness, as having plenty of road feel is important to me and what makes my 'hot hatchback' style car fun all the time even pottering around town IMO. The initial steering was much faster than the S007A, almost like it is a kind of special effect thanks to the very stiff tread blocks, though I find the S007A steering feels more 'natural'. Once the Sport was loaded more however it just felt like the sidewall was flexing and a little bit numb, though the Potenza DNA was still there. 18" and above sizes might not be as 'bad' though.
