Tyrell Nemeth-Ford was selected onto the South Australian School Sport 13-19 Swimming Team to contest the School Sport Australia Games on the Gold Coast QLD (July 2024). Tyrell was supported by the Sports Excellence Scholarship Fund and Phillips Foundation to attend this event.
This year Tyrell had the opportunity to contest three finals in the 13 year old boys age group; 100m Breaststroke, 100m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle. This was Tyrell's first time being listed as a top ten competitor and his performances represented a significant improvement in his national rankings. Tyrell swam 6 personal best times across 7 individual events and represented South Australia in two relay teams. Tyrell's highlight was dropping under the one minute mark in the 100m Freestyle to record a new personal best time of 59.19 seconds, finishing 7th in this event.
The weather across the competition was a welcome reprieve from an Adelaide winter and Tyrell made the most of reconnecting with friends from interstate, whom he met for the first time last year. With a broader range of events open to 14 year old athletes, he has firmly set his sights on a podium finish in 2025!
