Tyrion enters the hand's bedchamber through Vary's secret pathway and finds Shae in Tywin's bed. He sings Hands of Gold as he strangles her with the chain of linked golden hands then walks to the privy with Tywin's crossbow in hand.

In a (fictional) world of terrible people, and parents, Tywin still is one of the worst father’s ever put to screen/page. He is brutal, cruel, vindictive, and worst of all he is those things to his own flesh and blood. This chapter always makes me happy (kind of) to read Tyrion finally take his retribution after all the years of abuse. It was very difficult for Tyrion, for obvious reasons, killing his father. But man, the humanity in these book characters is palpable.

When Lord Tywin was first introduced he had a deep welsh accent in a GOT. Trouble is Tywin does not have all that much dialogue until ASOS at which point Roy Dotrice (the narrator) still keeps the welsh accent but he slowly phases it out. I do not know if he did this on purpose as all the Lannisters speaking in a Welsh accent became confusing, especially with the introduction of Jaime as a POV in the same book, who talks in a similar way to Tywin. Or merely because he has to voice over 100 characters and simply forgot with the book gap. However, while listening to the audio books the change is very gradual and hardly noticeable unless you pay close attention. It only seems to be a stark contrast when comparing it the Tywins introduction in a GOT.

@@davidsekhleyan693 Come on, David. You know that's not true. His anger originates from the wrongs that have been done to him, from people that he had trusted for the most part of his life (family). His father is just the kind of person that will do anything to put the Lannisters in front, regardless of the consequences to other. The Rains of Castamere is taletelling and the way Cercei handles her opponents makes even her father look like a amateur. Tyrion doesn't hold a grudge and he's always proving himself as the better man, despite being mocked. He gave the janitor his money after Bronn kills Ser Vardis and he constructs a chair in which Bran Stark could sit upon a horse. Tyrion is George Martin most favorite character. This is why.

@@marcoanonymous8434 Cersei isn't good at dealing with opponents. The only thing she's better than Tywin is the ruthlessness. Tywin, despite being ruthless, was also politically savvy and always thought about doing it more "clear", without openly harming a reputation of his family and having no consequences for his actions. Cersei doesn't think about it. She doesn't give two shits about political and practical sides. And especially she doesn't care about consequences. And it doesn't matter how many hardships Tyrion had endured in his life (thanks to Tywin and Cersei). He is just as ruthless as Tywin, he's prideful as well, and in current state of story he plots to bring a war on entire Westeros just to have his revenge. He's a great villain, we can understand where all his hatred, rage and pain comes from, but that doesn't change all awful things he done throughout the story and things he will do (if GRRM finishes series ofc).

At first I was simple minded and didn’t appreciate Tywin Lannister. But then as I read the story and got into more of the lore Tywin Lannister became my favorite character, or at least one of them. People love to make excuses for the characters they like and crap on the more nuanced and intelligent characters like Tywin. He was the only real chance besides Ser Kevan for a marginally United Westeros and some order brought in. But Tyrion, a lame, lazy, selfish spiteful and narcissistic character is given the plot armor and means to kill one of the best characters. What irritates me most about the books is that characters who should in fact die don’t. When weak and useless characters flourish. Tyrion isn’t even worth a tenth of Tywin and yet he gets plot armor galore. Same with Daenerys and Sansa. Realistically they’d be the first ones dead
@CheeseCrumbs00
@CheeseCrumbs00 Жыл бұрын
I don't think Tyrion has got plot armour and I think Tywin deserved to die. Tywin mistreated his son his whole life and Tysha was the last straw and Tywin finally reaped what he had sown. Tywin isn't the only character able to bind the kingdoms together, Stannis too has the means and will to do so too.

@@CheeseCrumbs00 Tywin didn’t mistreat Tyrion all his life. All you have is Tysha as his bad action. Other than that, Tyrion lived a privileged and entitled lifestyle. Tyrion literally just gets carried around the storyline. It’s facts.

@@thanosalaarson8290 He outsmarted Cersi multiple times, name one person who has outsmarted little finger, Tyrion didn't and he didn't outsmart Varys either. But that doesn't make Tywin a good man. Tyrion was new to the game of thrones and was getting his footing, hes not a good fighter but hes not terrible either, we've seen him show more bravery than Tywin who commands from the rear and his own intelligence and cunning saves his life in the vale twice. Tywin mocked Tyrion consistently, making him manager of drain and cisterns in Casterly rock and prevented him from claiming his rights as heir to casterly rock. I don't understand why you value Tywin so much as the whole point of his and Tyrions relationship was to point out that Tywin is exactly like Tyrion and a hypocrite bedsides . He dresses up Shae, his sons whore in his hand of the King jewelry despite his mocking of his own father who did the same. He critiques Tyrions low cunning when he displayed the same traits to peform the red wedding. It is explicitly states multiple times that Tyrion is Tywin writ small and that "Tyrion is Tywins son," in character and all else. Give Tyrion time and he wouldn've turned out like Tywin.

What a bad take that misunderstand the point. Tywin’s accomplishments are a farce, a straw House that he built. He always talks of his ‘legacy’ and how he wants to make House Lannister a powerful dynasty but fails to realize that to do that you need to be a father, not a narcissist who destroys all your children’s minds because you’re too selfish to see past yourself. Tywin was never the thing Westeros needed because the minute Tywin dies, the whole thing falls. He failed as a Lannister and as a father

Well, whenever I read the dialogues with Tywin, I imagine Charles Dance's voice. But Roy Dotrice did the best he could. Do you think it was in his interest to make all characters sound like cancer patients?? All in all, Dotrice's work is not considered great due to the way he makes the characters sound like. He is considered great due to the way he reads the evolution of events. Furthermore, what I like most on Dotrice's work is the way he changes his voice depending on the character (for instance whenever Tyrion speaks, his voice sounds mocking, while Tywin has a menacing voice).
