I've been in a sanctioned MMA fight in front of a few thousand people at a local show. When the adrendaline is running and the crowd is shouting, it could be very confusing for a fighter.
@amck722 жыл бұрын
That's not true about the crowd adrenaline having an effect on the fighter because in the ring you rarely hear the crowd, you only hear your corner men and the ref.
@justjuztin12 жыл бұрын
i totally agree mate, i have been doing it for nearly 10 years and i absoloutley love the sport. i just love how their so relaxed, the music, the wai kru they do before the fight, the clinch, every little thing about it. it sure would be great. hopefully we see more in the future
@boulder00013 жыл бұрын
That's totally on the ref......if you see when Spong gets knocked out by Saki the ref waves it off and doesn't let him go, hugging him to his corner. You have to take control in the middle.....the fighters are there to knock each other's heads off, not debate what the ref is trying to do.
@munchyman311 жыл бұрын
So true. Corbett wanted full thai rules in this fight as well but Spong declined.
@justjuztin12 жыл бұрын
yes i do watch them boys, they are all top quality fighters. down in australia there are alot of fighters who fight full thai rules, its much more popular then just your standard kickboxing or k-1 rules. its our prime fighting sport. now that you mentioned that i wont be expecting it. its a shame though, i would of liked to have seen it happen. their both great fighters.
@tonyadams633611 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've seen it. I hope it will happen in one the Glory events very soon because people want this to happen. I love Van Roosmalen and I think he will defeat Beqiri. It's going to be an awesome bout I think. Le Banner is getting old, but still has it. I'm not a fan of Kharitonov. Fun fact: I train at the same gym as Wilnis, and he is going to be hell for Levin. I don't know if Levin can win this one, despite his good streak. We'll just see, it's going to be another epic edition of Glory.

As a referee you stand between the fighters when you waive off a fight so they cannot re-engage. It's that simple.
@SomeFitnessDude12 жыл бұрын
I'd love to see a rematch between these two even tho it's never gonna take place. Spong broke his hand in this fight so he couldn't fight 100% and he was also pretty young in this fight, and carnage wasn't allowed to use elbows so he wasn't 100% either. Rematch between these two with elbows being allowed, that would be one hell of a game. Respect to both of these fighters.

Why this fight is no contest? Fight was over before Corbett attacked Spong again.
@makemegofast13 жыл бұрын
The referee had already called it off by KO, he was not clear on this and did not do his job. Therefore Nathan won by KO, hitting after the bell whether it was intentional or not should have been sorted out by the board. It should not have changed the decision.
@justjuztin12 жыл бұрын
like ive said many times before, the fight will go to carnage if there was elbows

i agree, also notes that Carnage was knock down in second round. he wasn't really himself leading to round three.

Time for the rematch and get this Corbett - Spong question out of the way. And no, Spong isn't going to accept elbows this time either, so it will be kickboxing rules. 28th of September, Glory LA if some Australian media have it right. I hope so, would be an awesome fight.

@Charlie_Fucsard13 жыл бұрын
The question is would Spong agree to a real Muay Thai fight with elbows in the rematch? Elbows are Corbett's most dangerous weapon, Spong flat out refused to fight under full Thai rules & still got knocked out so it seems doubtful he would. Very cool that the vast majority of the comments here recognise who the real victor was that night.
@tonyadams633611 жыл бұрын
Toevallig wel ja haha. Would be amazing if he did indeed. Levin is a very strong and hard guy to fight I agree. But someone's gotta beat him some time right. I have a feeling this is going to be a very nice event. Though all Glory events have been great so far. We'll just have to wait and see. I like the way Glory is trying to get kickboxing promoted the proper way in the US. I hope it's get the appreciation it deserves as a sport.
@barefootbandit8312 жыл бұрын
Ive watched him fight in full thai rules, split the guys head open and stopped the fight in the first round, forget who it was but he was from nederlands to, guy with dreds. it's not his elbows that are dangerous, just anyone that's lucky enough to connect with them.
@mytube989912 жыл бұрын
It looks like Corbett rushed in a little bit too quickly, but ref should've faced him and waved or at least stayed in between Corbett and Spong. In a high intensity moment like that, Carnage has to take advantage or it could've been him face down on the canvas. They were both in the wrong, but it's the ref's job to control the ring, not the fighters. Fighters are there to fight!
@mytube989912 жыл бұрын
At the end of the day, Spong didn't get up after the 10 count. Corbett is the best fighter at 90kg or under. No questions asked. Corbett walks at 95kg and could make 85kg, the only people that stand a chance against him walk at 110kg. They need 15 kilos (33 pounds!) on him to stand a chance and they still won't fight him with elbows!!
@mardigann99611 жыл бұрын
09:11 Ref needed to wave HIGH AND WIDE WHILE STANDING DIRECTLY CLOSELY INFRONT OF SPONG. I am not a ref by any measure, but I reached this conclusion by what I've seen from boxing refs, at the highest level. Michael Schiavello was absolutely right.
@Qudyn11 жыл бұрын
I have reviewed this video and I would agreed that the referee did mistake - he did step aside, he should not have to do that. But Corbett should have been careful as the referee shown "stop" with his hands. The next weard thing was that there was actually KO and than it became a "no contest" fight. Really "freaky" decision in the end.

I still don't understand where the lack of respect from Spong towards Corbett comes from ,he is always very humble and respectfull towards his opponents yet in this fight the whole camp was not.It made me think of Hari ,wich is one of the reasons why i don't like Hari much ,he makes everything personal.
@Deimian67613 жыл бұрын
spong got koed for sure but he wasn't allowed to recover and corbett attacked before spong got up. but i still think in a rematch spong would beat corbett he had him in trouble that whole fight up until the last round

spong is on the floor at 3:20, on his feet again at 3:33 (13 seconds) and was still out and limbing no guard up untill 3:40(20 seconds) when corbett attacked. The fight was over and corbett won. But still the ref should have faced corbett (or corbett shouldn't have attacked) but this is sport and mistakes happen, i don't think there was bad intentions. i wd hv loved to see a full MT rematch but spong is a lot heavier now.
@robinho197913 жыл бұрын
The ref was waving his hands shoulder high..facing spong walking away from him with his back turned from Nathan. I dont blame Nathan thinking the fight is continued. Sill ref...Nathan could of had a win over Spong instead of a NC.

Nathan Corbett is known for his deadly elbows.. which werent allowed in this toned down version. Watch his videos, most of Corbetts wins come from unstoppably quick elbows from clinches.

I´m 100% sure that Nathan would not punch him if he knew the victory was already in he´s pocket. I´m not australian, i´m neutral ... When youre in the ring it´s killed or be killed and until the fight is finish you are in kill mode, simple as that. This is a tragedy, the whole thing...

there is no lucky hit on combat sport, every punch can lead to KO. and then again if you watch the fight. carnage switch stand was a brilliant idea, i think that was the major factor leading to the KO. so i respect spong, he is a great fighter, but carnage was a better fighter that night.

Hey, even though Corbett was at fault, he still knocked Spong out cold!!! That two unnecessary punches in the end happens all the time in a MMA bout. Poor officiating. A referee MUST stand between the fighters when waving off a fight. He must make it clear to both fighters. In this case, the ref started to wak away and I can see where Nathan became confused. FYI.....the referee is Paulo Trocha, the same guy who played the thai boxer in Van Damne's "Bloosport".

This was the refs fault. Not only he didn't wave high enough, he also stepped to the side which usually indicated for the fighter to go ahead and continue. The fight should of still been ruled a tko because Spong was in no way able to continue.

I don't agree with what he did, he could have seen the reff from where he was i would have the same opinion if it were either one of them, i remember reading about this fight couple of years ago and they were both talking a bit of shit before it so it probably was on purpose, he probably would own him in a rematch, but what do you think if it was with elbows, think it would still be the same?
