Well...this ended up being more than just a footnote.... I was really surprised, watching this fight. Fury, who I've grown to have a lot of respect for over the last few years, did not look good in this bout....and Francis Ngannou looked far better than I thought he would (even though I know he's an elite MMA fighter...I did not expect him to fare all that well, as he is not a career boxer, and was giving up half of his "weaponry" by fighting a strictly boxing match). I don't know if it's because Fury didn't take him seriously enough beforehand, or if Ngannou is just that good...

Power with boxing gloves on is a whole different thing than with those little 5 oz gloves they use in MMA. Also, the way guys defend stand up in MMA doesn't even compare as they leave themselves wide open for shots as they also have to worry about takedowns.

Wow! The more hype I hear about how Fury is gonna embarrass Ngannou, and carry him for the exhibition, the more afraid I become for this fight. I have seen Ngannou take a shot, and I don’t think Fury can knock him out, unless it’s by barrage. However, I have also seen Ngannou swing, and he is much faster than people think. And his power is to be respected. Every time he has made good contact, in any fight, his opponents go down. Usually to stay down. Fury seriously needs to mind his manners for at least the first few rounds, until Ngannou hopefully slows down. I think this will be a much better fight than most critics are saying.

Generally Geoff I love your work. Regarding this video, there are three points arising. 1. Fury's claim to 'lineal' is disputed by a great many fans of boxing. Surely, he earned that title upon beating WKlitschko, but is it right for him to keep the lineal when he shamelessly ducked the rematch 13 days before fight night and he was subsequently stripped of every other title he'd taken from WK? There's a powerful argument that lineal reverted to WK when he was cheated out of the rematch and that it passed to Joshua, now Usyk. 2. Fury vs Ngannou is not listed on BoxRec meaning it's not an official fight. It is actually an exhibition show, in which ko's are not allowed and the outcome is predetermined a draw (eg M Tyson vs Jones jnr). 3. Many folks predict Fury will pick up an injury in this bout (Achilles?) which conveniently prevents the fight against Usyk for undisputed, from going ahead.🤷‍♂️ I wonder what Quasimodo would say?

I'm 100% sure that you will be with Fury when Usyk and Fury fight....at the beginning I believe in your predictions but now I'm more than clear that you will always pick the easy choice

Speaking of boxing vs MMA, Anthony Pettis recently beat Roy Jones Jr in a boxing match. That's only the second time a former heavyweight champ lost to a guy making his boxing pro debut. The first time was Leon Spinks vs. John Carlo

Even as a life long MMA fan and casual boxing fan, Ngannou has almost zero chance whatsoever to beat Fury. If Fury could take Wilder's punch, it's hard to think Francis can hit harder or more accurately. But my god do I want to live in the chaotic timeline that Ngannou blitz's Fury and somehow wins. Just for the sheer unimaginable chaos that would ensue in *BOTH* sports.

Somehow we got an even more chaotic result where Francis actually got robbed (in most peoples eyes). He didn't knock fury out but arguably out boxed, including getting the only knockdown, and the only elbow strike and only takedown attempt were done by the actual boxer 🤣🤣🤣 Ngannous coach Eric Nicksick must be some kind of chaos God at this point, because he also coached sean strickland to outstrike one of the best strikers in mma history with a jab cross and a push kick, and that wasn't even 2 months ago 😂😂 there's never enough chaos in boxing so I'm glad this spices it up a bit

I agree 100% with everything you said, but, I think Ngannou has a better chance against Fury than Mcgregor had against Floyd, at least because heavyweights hit hard enough that one punch can do it. I've also got a sneaky suspicion tha Ngannou is gonna at least try a coupla peek-a-boo maneuvers in there, and if Fury is boxing off the back foot like he used to before he trained at Kronk, there's a chance, a very slim, almost non-existant chance, but it's a chance. Enough to put a sneaky nugget or two on it for a bubble anyway.

Originally I thought Fury would let Ngannou go the distance and give the fans a show But if he's serious about a quick turn-around to fight Usyk I can see him taking him out in the first couple rounds after Francis has gassed

Can see a possibility that Fury takes this distance and adviise his entourage to back the wide odds.

I totally agree. I called Fury by stoppage in the 8th!! I think you're kind to pay to watch and kind to Francis who i think will be completely out of his element and outclassed. Unlike so much of the media i dont think exhibition matches are a good look for the sport. If it was really for the people they wiuld be free or a LOT cheaper than they are. But they're always a money grab. This will at least be a couple steps above the Paul-Danis circus.

Hey Rummy, do you think Fury is making a mistake by fighting Usyk in December 23, giving himself only 2 months to prepare for it?

Well he isn't going to actually take any punches against Ngannou. So it's not like he'll need to recover in between

I wonder what Fury's request for a 24x24 foot ring does to predictions. Would it make it more likely that the fight goes over 5.5 rounds?

Imagine Ngannou beating Fury and becoming the lineal heavyweight champion in his first pro fight. On the other hand, Fury will have 10 defences of the lineage if he wins.
