I bought this game from a small Japanese electronics shop when I was a Marine stationed at Camp Hansen in Okinawa back in 1983. I practically wore that thing out by the time I went back to the States a year later. Great game too! I remember being pretty good at it on Level 3. However, I did have to share the game with some of my fellow Marines. Thanks for bringing back some good memories, TysyTube!

At 3:00 that’s not the charging port, that was for a DC adapter to run it plugged in instead of with batteries. Old electronics like this didn’t have built-in charging capability; if you had rechargeable removable batteries you needed to take them out and charge them using the battery charger, just like you still do.

Really great save! Put a smile on my face when you powered up the game. I have repaired several over the years. Most of the time it's just a loose wire or corroded battery terminals. And just plain dirty.

I don't know if you know this (or care, even), but in the UK we have a word which accurately describes the messy, dirty, grimy, filthy state the console was in when you bought it: Grotty. :D

@SceneArtisan
@SceneArtisan 4 жыл бұрын
@@cindykincade589 The word applies to anything or anyone or any place that's in a filthy, dirty, messy (etc) state. Dirty hands could be grotty. A dirty, muddy, ******-laden, dusty, decrepit building that's fallen into disrepair could be grotty. A kid whose clothes are a mess and they're unwashed etc could also be grotty. You get the idea. My point is, it doesn't just relate to messy. dirty, filthy gaming consoles. :)

3:43 - That is actually a piezo transducer, not a speaker driven by a coil. By the look of it, it is also a VFD - Vacuum Fluorescent Display, instead of LCD.

Yup, almost all of the games of that era were VFDs. It looks, from the demo, like the VFD might be starting to go, or the contacts need more cleaning, I could see dimming and maybe some ghosting. 8 Bit Guy fixed a Pac Man VFD machine with ghosting.
