I hope there's a "Mank Cinematic Universe" so Ben gets his own movie.

I never knew Ben’s grandfather wrote the screenplay for Citizen Kane. It all makes so much sense now, Ben’s work with TCM and the political sphere must have to do with his grandfathers time in Hollywood and his fathers time in political commentary.

Only recently got round to this fascinating movie. Just been reading a little in the era & I think it was a sadly missed opportunity that Mank never worked with Mae West. They both hailed from the same neck of the woods, were theatre people, started at Paramount, brought the same kind of satirical/cynical wit to their work and they both ran afoul of American censorship & W.R Hearst at one time or another roughly around the same period, 20’s to 40’s. A collaborative effort between them would’ve been 🔥 as the kids say today, at least IMO.

Ben is Cenk's sometimes funny, often annoying rich liberals friend. He does no work for TYT but somehow gets on the panels for the most important events to slick his hair and be condescending to working class people. One thing I can't accept is that he is sometimes included in the "started from the bottom" story of TYT when he's from one of the most privileged families in america. He got a job talking about movies for crying out loud. You got to have connections for that. As far as I know, he's never acknowledged how privileged he has been.
@katra7773 жыл бұрын
He was the initial investor that got TYT started and he started in the newsroom at the bottom. He did not go straight to movie reviews. Get your facts straight. They talk about their pasts so much.

Edit: he at least said he benefited from it in this video. First time I've heard.

TYT is pro working class. Also, as a movie fan, I liked Ben talking about movies.
@M0rganKane3 жыл бұрын
@@Tartersauce101 yes TYT is mostly pro working class (but union busting is highly worthy of criticism) but my point is that if a host is going to say something from a rich person perspective, it's often Ben. Hey, i like him talking about movies, he should not stop, but you don't get a job talking about movies on TV without having a privileged network.

@@sonofliberty1 Yeah, you're either against giant corporations or you partner with them. There is no inbetween.
