I always thought that the “I think it would be fun to run a newspaper” 4th wall break, was the cinematic depiction of the scorn the character had in his memoir. I picture several paragraphs being written in the characters memoir filled with disdain, with the Journalist just interpreting it as the 4th wall breaking sneer.

For sin 42, Jeremy forgot that the scene wasn't set in 1941. Kane acquired The Inquirer shortly after inheriting control of his fortune around 1888 (age 25, assuming birth in 1863), and soon after he bought the Daily Inquirer. At around 1890, NYC's population was 2.7 million, so rather than 0.24% circulation in 1941, it was actually four times higher.

One of my favorite things about this film is the depiction of the wannabe opera singer lover. In modern films, the ignorant film-goer would presume that she has a lovely voice, so the producers would force her to sing absolutely horrible, because they think the audience is stupid. In this film, she sings average, but you'd need to have some proper musical knowledge to realize that; and the only indication the uninitiated is given is from the reactions of the tech crew. She's not the worst thing ever, but she has no business being a star.

I am so sick of the "No one heard him say 'Rosebud'" plot hole. If you pay attention to dialog early in the film, you hear that Kane's butler was standing on the other side of the bed than the one filmed. And in the widescreen version of the film you can see the bleeding butler when the nurse walks in! Also Orson Wells himself explained that the butler was standing at the bedside of his master more than a dozen times in his later life.

You miss the point entirely. The greatness of CITIZEN KANE isn't the story (it fails on its initial premise of seeing a man's life through the 'differing' perspectives of the people he touched. As non are actually very different from each other), the greatness of CK is that it amasses all the technical tricks, editorial innovations and especially all Greg Toland's innovative camera techniques into one mind blowing feature film. And because of that, it's one AMAZING film.

0:15 I think it's called "Radio Picture" because of the R in RKO (Radio-Keith-Orpheum). But then again, RKO was founded after the merge of KAO (Keith-Albee-Orpheum) and FBO (Film Booking Offices of America) under the Radio Corporation of America, better known as "RCA". The purpose of the merger was to create a market for their sound-on film technology, known as the RCA Photophone.

Originally they revealed the meaning of Rosebud in the movie, it was Hearst's nickname for his second wife but the family threatened to sue Wells if he kept it that way so he changed it to the sled storyline.
@BoraHeyTae9 ай бұрын
Please state the source, because I've never heard of such a thing. Mankowitz knew what Rosebud meant. However, that has no relation to the use of the sled as the main symbol.
