I don't think that tiny ROV has enough power to lift a basket full of finds. Maybe the company has something a bit more of a mover. Also if you can engineer your grabber arm to rotate, I think it would shed a great deal of the positional issues, even though that ROV is fairly maneuverable.
@WW2HistoryHunter3 жыл бұрын

On my break, and most definitely ready for another German U-boat Harbour/Harbor Fifish adventure carried out by HH. Started off a success in locating the 20 mm cartridge from German Flak anti-aircraft gun. And wow finding that pile of live 7.92 rounds. The brass did look in good shape. Well worth the fight in obtaining proof that they were K98 Mausers and MG's on board the German subs. Leaves no doubt. That cup is extremely intriguing. Definitely more to the story and we are anxiously awaiting the update on Part 4. Don't leave us hanging too long HH. At the beginning of the war the Type VII boats had a single 20mm of the aft of the Turm (tower) plus the 8.8 deck gun. As the tactics changed on both sides, the deck gun was removed and two 20mm guns of single or twin barrels were added to the original platform and the Wintergarden platform was added aft and slightly lower. Some had a single 37mm but were changed out for quad 20mm. On either side of the bridge were mounts for MG13 or 15’s. These were used when repelling boarders or in contact with enemy rafts. There were usually 3 or 4 K98’s on board as well.

There's another KZbinr, a German, who said recently on one of his videos that the Germans used wax on their steel bullets to reduce the friction with the barrel when fired. With brass, there wasn't so much friction. I remember having a model of the U-505 in the 1960s. I assembled it myself. It had two twin-barrel 20mm machine guns near the conning tower.

Later versions of Uboats had an air defense platform on the aft of the conning tower. The guns there could also be used for point defense against light ships and vessels, such as lifeboats, MTB/MGB, corvettes etc. The main deck guns were originally intended for ship to ship work but could also be used for air defense but it was usually a better idea to get under the water. Each sub would have a weapons locker for taking prisoners, mounting guards etc. Curse you for leaving me with a cliff hanger! Lol.

Most submarines during WW2 had deck guns of some sort along with small arms the crews used to board captured ships. Seems logical that the cartridge and casings would come from these submarines and support boats. I would like to suggest you get a bucket and drill some small holes in it and then tie a rope on it. Lower it in to the water and use it to put your discoveries in. This may help to extend your dive time. These underwater adventures are captivating. I find myself telling you to check this and that giving you suggestions on how to grab something lol. It’s easy to be an arm chair quarterback, but your there and know the conditions your working with and what you need to do. Once again,another great video.
