When I went through the schools in early 90's they had just killed that guy in the SAR poll... I believe his name was Maretti(Spelling). Also the just called us Helo SAR swimmers or SAR qualified..When I was an AW for the record... back then, I don't know what they call it now.

At some point, you will be given a "dream sheet" to fill out. You WILL be assigned by "needs of the navy", but they will attempt to give you one of your top choices. If you put down destroyer, frigate, cruiser, you will probably get one of them. Chances are better if you request east coast duty, I think - EVERYONE wants to go to PacFleet. Good luck, whatever you decide on!! My youngest son just signed on, 1 year DEP. I'm proud!

I was aircrew for 21yrs and flew in many different aircraft. I retired January 1992 as a Master Chief Petty Officer. My hat is off to you all. You. have better equipment, training than we had at the time. But the job is the same. Saving lives and you guys are who I would pick to get saved. Of course Sierra crews are more equipped and battle ready, but still.

I would perhaps say that FSK are the Norwegian response of the Navy SEALs. One of the differences between MJK and FSK, it that a Marinejeger team on lets say 5 people, everybody knows a little about everything. But on a FSK team everyone got a special job. For example being the doc, or expert on explosives, or got sniper skills and such

I was also just giving an example, so not sure if that is the real roles or anything.. Haha, of course. Norway is the real viking land ! But I also like the SAS, the SEALs and the Green Berets. The part that's shocking about BUD/S graduates is that most of the really is top athlets.. Could be in the swimming/running Olympics if you think about it

I'm thinking of going either Air Force Pararescue or this but can't find too much info on this job. Do they fly into combat zones to pick up people or is it mostly civilian/humanitarian rescue stuff? Are these guys sent into water only or do they go on land as well? I also read that this is not even an actual job in the Navy but a secondary job type of thing? So many questions lol
@americasnavy
@americasnavy 9 жыл бұрын
+ChamorruWarrior The Navy has both SAR and AIRR. SAR is a secondary role for Sailors attached to a ship. AIRR is your rating - it's Special Operations and is your main job with Aircrew. You are attached to a squadron. Responsibilities of an AIRR include: • Saving pilots of downed aircraft, people aboard stranded or capsized vessels at sea, or even hikers and mountain climbers in danger on land• Rescuing civilians during natural disasters and collaborating with other forces, such as the Coast Guard during the joint rescue missions• Working as a crew chief on a H-60 helo, where the primary duties are to make sure the rescue swimmer and the pilot are on the same page and to operate the hoist in rescues• Delivering aid and supplies to other countries in humanitarian operations • Providing support to Naval Special Warfare Operations• Conducting surveillance in anti-submarine warfare and drug interdiction operations • Transporting troops and cargo to and from ships

+ChamorruWarrior I know I'm a little late to reply, but from what I've read online this job isn;t as cool as they've made it out to be. The problem is that where as Coast Guard rescue swimmers operate locally rescuing civilians these guys operate on ships rescuing downed pilots and overboard personnel which rarely happens. Some AIRR personnel go their entire enlistment without really doing their job unless there is a major disaster like Hurricane Katrina you might feel like a waste. A number of the guys who do this are people who just couldn't wait two years to get into the Coast Guard program. Bare in mind most military jobs have this type of problem. Things like wartime conditions and exactly what unit you get assigned and all kinds of other things completely beyond your control will affect your experience.

You have surface swimmers we deal with RHIB- Rubber Hall Inflatible Boats, Kodiaks. The Coast Guard & Coast Guard Auxiliary is the most recognized next to Air Force Puddle Jumpers. +America's Navy I got a 62 in my asvab but still didn't qualify because I was of by 5 points in the mechanical comprehension section , my recruiter said I still might have a chance still but it all depends on how I do and day on MEPS.

You are not a PJ (Pararescueman) unless you enlisted in the Air Force in which case you are STILL not a PJ until you make it through the PJ Training pipeline which is one of the most extreme in the military (higher attrition rate then Navy SEALs). Good luck though, but trust me, don't claim you are something until you have earned it. TRUST ME.

Yeah that is very true but SEALs are highly motivated to be warriors and that is why Olympic athletes fail the course becasue they are and were not motivated to be an elite maritime warrior.
