Beyond that it's terrible scifi and terrible storytelling. The writing is poor and the science is pulled straight from the writers' asses.

The ship designs made sense in the era where the filmmakers actually had to make a model and had a limited budget with which to make models. Now every hack can make another “ship design” in CGI and it costs nothing.

@@chemicalburn 100% agree. The need to endlessly reuse models also gave the Star Trek universe a visual consistency. Something it has now completely lost. Of course some models were overused. It was odd that Excelsior class still seemed to be a frontline ship in the TNG era. But generally it worked. Seeing the ship designs in ST:Discovery is like seeing a cowboy in a film about the English Civil War.

Jerry Goldsmith score over the top of this sells the torpedo boat hard. Scores can do a lot of heavy lifting but the attention to detail on this model and the movement of the camera give us an almost studio level beauty shot by themselves....well done.

There are a lot of great starship flybys on KZbin, but this one gets closer to the ship and shows more detail, more realism, than any I've seen. This is what the TMP flyby would have looked like if they'd had the tech in the 70s.

Truly a masterful job of rendering art work. It is a beautiful ship. My only thought on a negative is the ship should not leave space doc so quickly. It would not be safe and it should be more like what happened with the Enterprise. Slow and stately. But that said a hardy "Well Done" all around.

Wonderful music and visuals. What a beautiful ship! True Star Trek from, well...my whole life. A bit of a tear-jerker...as it reminds me of my parents and the times we spent watching Star Trek and enjoying the original characters/series/movies. They have joined the universe now in the great beyond, but I know my mom and dad would love this. Thank you for a truly awesome creation. :)

Hmm, that guy voicing “orbital control” sounds like the actor that played Sisco’s dad on DeepSpace9, and also that corrupt StarFleet admiral in “Star Trek 6: undiscovered country”. Very distinct sounding. I’ve heard you can get partially retired actors to voice a few lines for a little bit of money sometimes.🤷♂️wonder if that happened here?

Very impressive visually… one constructive suggestion: the “whooshing” sounds of the worker bees and shuttles are distracting, particularly in that there is no air in space… perhaps a humming of their engines as they pass by would be more “natural”

Amazing work! Allow me to be nitpicky (which should be seen as a badge of honor). 1) Where is the warp core and main engineering located? The most logical place would be right above the warp nacelle pylons. However there doesn't appear to be near enough room Between the huge looking shuttle bay at the rear and the botanical gardens and the impulse section towards the front of the secondary hull. Also, there is a travel pod docking airlock on either side at the prime location for engineering. 2) The navigational deflector is meant to be pale white at rest and then turn increasing shades of blue as the ship speeds up. 3) where did the docked travel pod go when the ship cleared space dock?

Not my favorite starship design/configuration, but the aesthetic fits in perfectly with the movie era ships and the rendering is absolutely AAA movie quality. I've seen lots of similar videos out there but this is probably the most professional/realistic one I've seen. Amazing work.

The ONLY thing I can make myself complain about, is the initial movement out of drydock. No sense of over coming inertia/mass. Suppose it could be so powerful? Simply beautiful art. Lighting amazing.

It's a great ship design, and this is a beautifully rendered video. Good composition, positioning, direction shots both great and the camera movement smooth and well positioned. I especially liked the texturing on all features of the ship.

What an interesting design and wonderfully animated. If that is a torpedo pod though wouldn't it have very restricted arcs of fire forward? Still, very nicely done.
