I served 9 yrs and I understand just fine. It's called deterring. When you have a Navy as gangster as ours you can do things like this to deter things from getting worse. The presence of our power has always given enemies cause for pause.

Thank you for your service, but it seems you do not understand the power and deterrence of messaging like this. This kind of announcement is done specifically to *reduce* the chance that members of the US military will be placed in danger by forcing Iran to recalculate how much risk they are willing to take. If we don't announce our power in the area then Iran may think we can't or won't respond. Iran could then decide to launch a massive attack on Israel. And if Israel somehow gets clobbered, guess what? Then we get a war, and the US will be part of it. These announcements are to avoid that.

I recommend watch the Fat Electrician story about how the US Navy handled Iran's Navy in the late 80's. The US Navy is NOT concerned with anything Iran has. A carrier strike group is more than Iran can handle.

@@waynethayer5127 That was a different time. Iran’s Navy today is not the same as it was in the late ’80s. Back then, they didn’t have submarines or a large arsenal of anti-ship missiles and drones. Most importantly, the Iranians have learned their lessons from the late ’80s and will not make the same mistakes again. While Iran’s Navy may not match the U.S. Navy, it would be very foolish to dismiss the threat from them.
