How refreshing to hear this genuine and humble man, so brilliant, steady and wise, speak from the heart and with such integrity. I've never known about him until now but I miss him already. He comes from a time when your word was your bond. When the pple responsible for the wellbeing of others took their oath to heart and worked together to make our country a better place. They may have made mistakes or been wrong in their decisions sometimes but at least they tried to choose fairly, intelligently and from a place of goodness and honor. As we lose these special men and women who have upheld fundamental beliefs and kept the core strong and sound,, I worry what will happen to our country as its already churning and becoming fractured in frightening ways. Thank you Justice Breyer for all you've stood for, and for all your years of exemplary service to our nation. Gods blessings Always 🙏 🇺🇸

I don't understand how we KEEP HEARING these speeches about the 'Rule of Law' and how IT is what 'binds us together'. Yet, we are WITNESSING in REAL TIME - that in Fact -- the "RULE of LAW" in not being ENFORCED (certainly, not EQUALLY)!! Talk is CHEAP - ACTION is what's needed - somebody wake up Merrick Garland (aka - Barney Fife)!!

The problem is that US. of America was not built on the rule of Law if you consider genocide of the natives and slavery, but rather it was built for rich white men free from the old religious cultures of Europe to endulge themselves in the opportunites of the new world. This is why you are confused about the EQUALLITY of the rule of law which is a myth to begin with, since the 'precious' founding fathers never believed it anyway. So Garland has always been ''awake'' it is you that did not get the memo all this time!

@@Derrowssi I disagree so profoundly with what you say. That is not what the rule of law means, and if you get to say what was in the Founders' minds, then I get to give my alternative fantasy of what was in their minds, namely: the ideals of the Enlightenment, a RADICAL philosophy, a revolutionary rethinking of society and the very beginning of the concept of human rights. Please note: The BEGINNING. They didn't get it all correct, not by a long shot, and I concede to you that their underlying belief was in what we'd call white supremacy - but the fact that their behavior did not live up to every ideal they espoused in the founding documents, the tragedy of the enslavement of Black people, those terrible facts do not mean that it was all a sham. It means it was the BEGINNING of something, the implications of which they were blind to. But those of us who've come after are not so blind as we have had a couple of centuries to think through those implications. Please do not throw out their achievement because of the tragic failures of these brilliant, and blind, white men.

It's not critical to the Justice's point, but the 101st Airborne soldiers Eisenhower sent in to aid desegregation? Stationed in Kentucky. The 82nd Airborne is at Ft Bragg in North Carolina. I know, persnickety - but how many chances are there to correct a Supreme Court Justice? (okay, yeah, that's become a LOT easier to do of late, but still...)

I'm a bit floored at how bad this interviewer is. It feels like he hasn't thought about his questions, and his research was focused on irrelevant details.
