you can tell by a lot of the comments here that most have never ran in a relay, the timing when you take off is very important, too soon and you miss the hand off, too late and you run up the back of the next person, ANYTHING that disrupts this has a major impact. If you watch the video there is contact between arms, it clearly disrupts her stride, which causes her steps to falter which leads to the missed pass. relay runners work on the hand offs almost as much as they work on the running. And so many don't have a clue about the rules

Mate, I don't know what video you're watching, but she clearly just tried to threw the baton at her hand when decelerate. She actually shouldn't decreased in speed just cos the baton is ABOUT to be in her hand. She should decrease speed as soon as she sees the hand gripped on to the baton

Thank you! People just don't want to see big bad USA in the finals. The rules are the rules. Felix was CLEARLY bumped by the Brazilian runner in the next lane. So the rules had to be followed. Just because the USA was smart enough to finish the race, then, launch the protest is no reason for all the hating.

Thanks for the video. This was one of the most incredible things I've seen in sports. First, it was extremely fair of the IOC to allow them to rerun the race. Two, it is unbelievable how well they ran by themselves in lane 2. Three, they ran the 2nd fastest time ever in the finals in the worst lane (lane1). Tiana Bartoletta and Allyson Felix have to be two of the top relay runners ever to race in the Olympics. This gold medal was one of the most satisfying golds I've ever had as a fan.

In IAAF World Championships 2017 Isaac Makwala from the country Botswana get a solo rerun for the heats of 200m and he entered into the Semi-Finals. It's not because of USA, it's because of the IAAF rules. For your information, IAAF is The International Association of Athletics Federations, it's the international governing body for the sport of athletics, including major events like Olympics, World Championships etc. There are many other sports have a governing body in the Olympics or World Championships, like FIG for gymnastics and FINA for water sports such as swimming and diving. Protest for infraction gets a rerun, it's under the IAAF rules. IAAF is the international federation for track and field recognized by The Olympics, knowing the IAAF rules will make you understand the sport better. Love from Malaysia.
@magnetmac1
@magnetmac1 7 жыл бұрын
GeniusDolphin Your comment is absolutely correct, but allow me to point out that there was no "rerun" of any kind granted to Isaac Makwala. He was only granted a "solo run" because he missed out on the originally scheduled 200m run the day before due to the fact that he was quarantined.

I have to admit that is fair decision to rerun. But I'm not sure if if the opposite happened, if it were the opposite, that is, if Alison Felix touched the Brazilian athlete and dropped the baton, if they would have allowed the Brazilians to run again.

I'm a US citizen, but I'm scratching my head at why they got another shot at qualifying into the finals. Are Olympic rules different from NCAA track rules on DQ terms and conditions? Or is the IOC just being corrupt and playing favorites again? Was there a collision between lanes 2 and 3 at handoff 2?

Was there a lane violation at 1:38? It looked like the anchor runner just touched the white line on the outside before getting the baton with 30.1 on the clock

Problem with the way relay baton exchange is practiced where they adopt the two side approach where the receiver will be starting close to one side of the lane and the handing runner will be running in close to the other end. This works well in practice where all other lanes are empty. But in actual race when all the lanes are occupied by runners who also will be adopting similar techniques there is bound to be some chaos and collisions as it happened here.

+John Stromboly, +Mr Nice Guy, +selassi son, +shakan seymore I don't know why you think that the USA was given any special treatment after they were interfered with. The rule states if a runner impedes another the one causing the impediment is DQ'd and the one that was impeded gets advanced to the next round. As long as they try to sincerely finish the race. Which the USA did. Now they could not just advance the USA to the next round automatically because they did not have a lane for them to run in. The final was loaded already. There was no precedence for this situation, because it never happened like this before. The dilemma for the IOC and the IAAF was what do we do now. We can't rerun the entire race, because that would be unfair to the other teams who were not impeded. We can't just drop any of the teams because the USA did not have an unimpeded qualifying time. So the only logical thing to do was to make the USA re-run the race alone. Unfortunately for China, they had the slowest time. But if you think about it, if the USA had not been impeded, China would not have made the final anyway. So the US beat the time they needed and posted the fastest qualifying time. Normally that puts them in a choice lane in the middle of the track. But because they did not qualify in the regular qualifying race they got the dreaded lane 1 which was China's lane. There were others who were advanced to the next round in a race in Rio: www.latimes.com/sports/olympics/la-sp-oly-rio-2016-runners-abbey-d-agostino-nikki-hamblin-1471369602-htmlstory.html Copy and paste that to your browser and you will see the original rule enforced. And guess what? The USA had nothing to do with it.

am just saying this would not happen to another country i saw gatlin ran in usain bolt lane in a 4*100m and iaa did not disqualfy them it would never happen to another country.traivan bromell got the same time as a chinese athlete in the last world championship what they did awarded it to the american why not the chinese they even went ahead and added an additional lane for the american because it was a 8 lane final and in the end he tied for thired what they did again awarded two bronz medal so why the didnt award it to one like they did in the semi-final simple because he is american thats all am saying

I can’t see why they were allowed a rerun (well apart from being the US). The argument was that one of the other runners stepped into the lane which is not true if you look at the race, and Felix didn’t even complain about that.
