Wonderful Outpouring of God's love in the apparent gift of musical intelligence given to GERT by GOD, and by the hard work Gert van Hoef has given to music while playing the many Organs he has been given opportunities to perform on and make recordings on! THANK YOU, GERT and MARJOLEAN. BLESSINGS to your dear family!!!

@@robertramsay5963 I wanted learn when I was 14 (I'm in my 60's now), but mum said no, now if I had asked my dad.... The organist at chapel was willing to teach my the basics on her piano (a Seinway no less) before letting me lose on the great organ. I have regret it ever since. I have struggled for many years, so I'm in awe of the great Gert, and thank his granddad and family for encouraging him.

Inspiring...to say the least! Makes one want to join in and sing. Gert is a world ambassador for the Dutch people and the great old hymns of the faith.

I note yet more comments attributing the spectacular skills of this marvellous young man to “god”, is that the same god that gave us earthquakes, cancer, collapsing bridges etc ? While you god botherers contemplate that , the rest of us will enjoy the wonderful sound through the ears that evolution thankfully gave us !

This hymn is based on "Chorus: See, the Conquering Hero Comes, HWV 63 Nr. 58" from the Georg-Friedrich Händel oratorio Judas Maccabaeus, which dates from 1746. Jan Willem Schulte Nordholt wrote the Nederlands lyrics; I'm more familiar with a translation of the French of Edmond Louis Budry to English, via R. Birch Hoyle.

I *have* heard of a couple of cob-webbed old fossils who do not approve of this kind of hymn accompaniment, which is certainly far more about the organ and organist than it is about the singers and the hymn. The late Virgil Fox attracted similar criticism from some quarters - equally unjustified, in my view. What is wrong with people enjoying the singing of a well-known hymn, accompanied by someone who, for the present, can produce such unusual and exuberant 'fireworks' from the organ? I have attended many organ 'concerts' / recitals, which featured the singing of a hymn in the middle of the event. I always found this a tedious interruption, but then it never sounded like *this*! Thanks for posting these and let's hear more!
@keithc96339 жыл бұрын
Agreed! I love the organ but I am not an organ snob. Just like Cameron Carpenter, I love for organists to put themselves into the music rather than play the same notes that we've heard for hundreds of years. Great job!!!
@jamesmartin20089 жыл бұрын
Keith I also agree but I'm not sure Carpenter can improvise like this. Also he has never shown the enthusiasm for old compositions...Back, Handel, etc. I believe Gert is unique at his age for this quality.

@Offshoreorganbuilder10 жыл бұрын
Unlike its electronic substitute, a *pipe* organ will go in indefinitely, if well maintained. Its age is irrelevant. From a fine pipe organ, you get unending years of good quality music. From the best electronic, you get *some* years of music which will be OK, and will certainly remind you of what you are missing. In the end, you stop noticing that what you are hearing is not quite as it should be. You have come to accept the mediocre as the norm. *Now* you are musically *dead*! (You can no longer tell margarine from butter ...)
