I think he was born in England then moved to Ireland with his family when he was still young.

Adam Clayton is English Adams family moved to Ireland in 1965 because his father was an airline pilot who relocated because of his work as a pilot. Before they permanently settled in Ireland they lived in a Africa for six months.

Sorry but your video title is a lie. What AC says is not an explanation of why (apparently) bass players "train wreck" the song in question. I've yet to see a bass player on this wwwsite who I'd say "train wrecked" it. They're all quite good.
