I've never got the keyboard timing right on this song. This helps a lot. Thank you for posting.

To me, what really makes that intro so powerful, is the Moog Taurus bass pedals that Adam Clayton is playing.

I was born in 1987, my favourite album it used to be Achtung Baby, first gig watching them live @ Vertigo Tour. Since then, I've been around Europe in more concerts, including Dublín, Paris and my homecountry, Spain. We could all easily agree that there's some sort of climax/ communion within the audience and the band, when all Screens changing into RED, you start to realize what it's coming after. I had the chance to assist to The Joshua Tree Tour @ Rome, the whole stadium became into just one massive big soul at unison. I Will always remember how we all started to Breathe, Jump, Sing, Smile with tears of joy and Experience this song, justo with the first chords of WTSHNN. For reason unknown, they were gifted in order to create a universal and timeless song despiste and beyond language. Art in many forms, but always, It Will get you when ready

Love the breakdown think you did a great job!!! The only criticism would be that I think you played it at about 138 BPM‘s when the actual song is more like 125 BPMs

Gets around KZbin recognising it and blocking the audio on copyright grounds. Changing the tempo and/or key can prevent this.

Mate I play guitar and I have found your video amazing... you got the sound nailed .. I even went and picked up my sons keyboard and can play the first section...I don't play keys at all and was wondering if I could at least ask if you could send over the fingering and notes so I could learn this... keep up the amazing videos.. thanks in advance.

@@adcheck72 If you mean during the verses/choruses: I don't think there are keyboards there on the original recording. But: the chord progression is: D/G/Bm7/Asus4/C. I'm talking about 1:48

Just missing a more prominent dotted eighth delay in that intro, otherwise, that was VERY close to the album tone!!!

I could've watched another 10 minutes of this! So good... I only wish you'd spoken a little more about the guitar part and how it functions over those chords. Regardless, thank you!

WHat are the keyboard chords and notes and counting after it goes to 4/4 time and the guitar comes in? I used to try to do this intro and never got the timing right. Who wudda thunk 6/4 time!!! That was great!!!
@thegoodnotes71 Жыл бұрын
I don't think the keyboards are present during the vocal sections. Not after 1:48.

@@thegoodnotes71 THought I just posted this. So I just watched the live video where they played it at the Superbowl. I am talking about just after it goes to 4/4 and before the singing there are 2 chords then you are right the keyboards stop playing, Not sure what those 2 chords are>!!! The last 2 you played in your explanation.
@thegoodnotes71 Жыл бұрын
@@jamesbond4633 The last two chords I played are the same as the very first two: Dsus4 to D

I always felt the intro was made with layers of slowed down and perhaps reversed sounds
@benjoxford72833 ай бұрын
I thought you were going to tell us about all the different layers and noise that go into the full sound e.g. what’s cyclical noise that’s there at the beginning?
@thegoodnotes713 ай бұрын
That's just a straight organ sound with a large hall reverb set at 100%.
@benjoxford72833 ай бұрын
@@thegoodnotes71 many thanks for responding. I’m grateful to be able to chat about the very beginning of the intro which has always fascinated me. I’m not sure that it’s just an organ + reverb. The whishing noise (you can hear it clearly from 2 secs in) sounds separate from the main organ. It is a circular or repeating noise which seems to disappear or can’t be distinctly heard once the main organ patch fades in at about 26 secs. Perhaps only Eno knows! Don’t say crickets! There’s a great post on KZbin where someone has isolated just the intro and outro. In the outro you can hear Taurus pedals although I’m sure they’re also in the mix during the intro.
@thegoodnotes713 ай бұрын
@@benjoxford7283 Oh that part; yes probably only Eno knows lol.
@benjoxford72832 ай бұрын
I think I’ve worked it out- heavily processed church bells. It’s similar to the noise at the very end of the Blue Nile song “Easter Parade”.
