Everything in this song is TIGHT AF: Guitar-wise, you have The Edge proving he's a tone monster, AND that he CAN pull off a solo if he wants to. The bass and the drums are simple, yet effective. Adam Clayton is one hell of a bass player, he sticks to simple stuff so that Edge can rip it on guitar and still have a solid base. Larry's drums are tight all the way, and the breakdowns are solid AF. Then there's Bono, think what you want of him, but he's a great singer and that's just the way it is. Of course, he has a little trouble hitting those high notes but he manages to come through, proving he's still got it... U2 at their finest lml

I can tell Bono feels this song on a very personal level. The way he improvises and even seems to get infuriated in every performance is something to behold. Holy crap. This was incredible. How have I never seen this before?? This track highlights one of my biggest pet peeves with how this band is viewed.. Adam and Larry almost seem to be an afterthought in terms of public perception. To an extent I get why that is. Bono and Edge are overwhelmingly considered the face of the band bc of how polarizing they both are in different ways, their names, and because they have such an instantly recognizable iconic appearance. But to me Adam and Larry played just as much of a roll, not only in what they’ve been able to accomplish as a band commercially, but also with their groundbreaking pioneering sound. Especially in the 80s and early 90s. For whatever reason over the years they disappointingly started to take more of a backseat with song writing/theme. But in early those days songs like Sunday Bloody Sunday, Bad, Bullet the Blue Sky, Until the End of the World, etc. are all drum/bass dominated tracks. Which was hella rare for that era of music.

Wow what a performance by U2! And for anyone who says that the bassist isn't important in a rock band check out how much Adam Clayton and his bass carries this song along perfectly!!
@jsbass56353 жыл бұрын
Amen brother. This song doesn’t fly without Clayton. One of the most malevolent, sinister bass lines in rock history.

Who says that?
@mrlardster Жыл бұрын
@@jamezkpal2361usually people who know nothing about the bass and how important it is in a rock band, take the bass out of a song and that song will sound hollow, soul less, disjointed and all over the place basically with no direction! When a song changes pitch and tempo you need the bass to take the pitch and tempo of the song with it otherwise it will it'd sound so random if you know what I mean. 🙂🙂

Damn right brother, it's an epic bassline played by an epic bassist!!! 🙂🙂🙂@@jsbass5635
