Review the live performance of U2’s song “Bad”-the historic Live Aid concert performance of it. It’s on KZbin. One of the most iconic & innovative live performances by any rock band of the past 50 years. U2 were up-and-comers at the time. Not yet global superstars. This live performance was viewed by over 1 billion people and changed everything. Because of what happened with Bono 2/3 of the way through the song (100% unplanned), they ended the song creatively on the fly-with, like, a prototype of what decades later would become known as a mashup. And it worked! A masterful performance of an incredible song.
@janes.15593 жыл бұрын
Up and comers? Are you insane? Unforgettable Fire was the 3 biggest selling lp, globally, in 1984, 5th in the US, and thats competing against Prince, Madonna and Jackson. They swept the grammys before live aid, and were on every magazine cover from rolling stone to Time. U2 was the band, globally, by 1985 and live aid. By 1983 and the release of War, they were a huge band, note they sold out that tour, world wide. Sunday Bloody Sunday and New Years day were huge songs for them, and videos.

I agree Joshua Tree is a great album, I think U2's best, with Achtune Baby being their second best (IMHO), but I disagree on some of your other choices not that they aren't all great bands just that I like some of their other albums better. For instance, for the Who I like Who's Next and Quadrophenia better than Tommy (though I still like Tommy a lot and think it's also a great album) or Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon (which for years was my favorite) but now I like Animals better. Queens self titled 1st album is still my favorite by them, even though they have a plethora of other great albums. I guess everybody has unique tastes.

I saw them in '83 at the tender age of 15 during their "War" tour. It was an unbelievable show and might be the first concert I went to. That could be the Police and UB40 though as those two time frames are awfully close together in my memory. I've been to a lot of shows in my time and seen some great concerts but that first U2 show ranks at the very top. There was so much raw energy and emotion coming off the stage and the crowd was so completely connected to each other. Classic 😂 U2 gained a lot more popularity with their albums that came out after this, but I'll always be a bigger fan of their earlier music. The Unforgettable Fire is probably their greatest album imo, and the title track from it, which they wrote in memory of the victims of the U.S. dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, is such a haunting and beautiful song.
