Bono does not like it when you are in the front row talking on a cell phone instead of watching the concert!

Is that all? There's nothing outrageous about this. And Bono is not yelling, he says: "Put down your fucking phone. You're at a concert, alright? Christ. Hi mom I'm in the middle of Sunday Bloody Sunday it's really going off here bye" And you know what, Bono is right. You're at a concert. If I was the performer and somebody right in front of me would start talking on the phone I would get annoyed to.

Bono overreacted a bit here. There was no need to swear at the Person, he could of simply said “Put your Phone away please” He was probably just having an off day as we all do. I can understand why this Person is upset about this. Think about it, When someone you have looked up to your whole life speaks to you like this in front of thousands of People, it is humiliating! I really hope this Person got an apology of him, because this must of been an awful experience for them. I love Bono, but i think he was a bit nasty here. We should be allowed to use our Phones and enjoy the concert at the same time! We pay good money to see this after all! I don’t care if you disagree with me, I’m entitled to my opinion.

I agree with Bono about being in the moment, but this was more than 10 years ago. Today, every front row of every concert is full of people trying to capture it on their phones rather than being in the moment. Bono lost that battle. A lot of people did.

If you're gonna pay to watch these amazing men perform songs that they've poured their heart, time, and energy into, give them some respect and enjoy what they're doing for you. So while you whine about how Bono yelled at you in front of a whole concert, think about how you were probably the only person doing that.
@TeamBabylon-dp2xf5 жыл бұрын
Yes, we pay to watch them, so they should respect us for being there. We should be allowed to have a good time as well. Why can’t we just respect them and use our phones at the same time? There’s no law to say we can’t use our phones there.

He's actually right. If you spend your time recording the concert through your phone, you're looking through your phones screen and your memory is not of the show, your memory is of recording the show. I saw them in 2015 and recorded maybe 4 songs, took maybe 4/5 pics and looking back even that was probably too much. You have to be in the moment at a concert otherwise your not really there and you lose an opportunity to have a great memory of it.
@NateKyng5 жыл бұрын
I saw their 360 show, and I took no pics, recorded no songs. I remember it like it was yesterday, from the opening song (City of Blinding Lights) to the last song (With Or Without You), and it completely transcended me. It wasn't just a rock concert, it was an experience, one that I won't ever forget.

Bono made a brief comment about someone talking (or at least he thought was talking) on their cell phone. All he said is put it down you're at a concert. I don't see what everyone's making a big deal about. I mean wouldn't you say something to someone if you were performing at a concert and right in front of you, in the front row, someone is talking on their phone instead of watching your band perform?

yeah, In my opinion you are right; on the one hand I think it´s a bad trend to film instead of enjoying the concert; but on the other hand as a star you have to deal with the individual "needs" of the fans of the first row. To have a smartphone and to film nearly anything is the trend now and you can´t condemn the people for being with the megatrend.

Bono isn't right. The person paid their money to be there they should be able to do what they want. They could fall asleep for all anyone cares and Bono would still get his money. Who is paying who here for doing what?
@MusicMasterTasmania9 жыл бұрын
Bob James No. Just no. So, you're saying that people pay their money to do whatever they want at a concert? Why even go to the fucking concert then? You pay hard earned money at a concert to EXPERIENCE that show. That is something you will never get again, so take in every little bit that you can. I hate these idiots who go to concerts and get drunk and end up forgetting the night. You might as well go out and get pissed at a bar! People actually want to spend 100+ or 200+ dollars to go to a concert they won't even remember? Its breath takingly stupid! Also, speaking as a musician, a lot of performers, especially Bono, are egomaniacs. A lot of us do not like when people aren't paying attention to the music we're giving our heart and soul to. I don't think with U2 that its just about the money. There is a certain passion and cause they go with to their concerts. For people to not be paying attention to what they're doing is an insult to Bono's ego haha

maybe the guy wasnt feeling the concert and was dragged there by friends and just needed to make a call or maybe he was so excited he wanted to share his feelings with someone he loved some where else. My favorite one ever of Bono going off on a fan is when they would play People Get Ready (I believe it was during the Joshua Tree tour) during performances. I found an audio copy way back when Napster huge. Bono stops in the middle of the song after asking who wants to play his guitar to tell some guy, "Listen guy, one more piece of shit out of you and you're out of here. I don't care if you paid for the front row." There was a bit more to the conversation but I can't remember the rest.

I remember seeing him singing "All I want is you" live on stage and some guy threw a plastic cup of water at him, possibly with ice, and he ducked and points at him and says "All I want is you Pal!" 😁 I can't see the incident on YT it might have been part of a DVD show or something.

i have to say that after seeing U2's most recent jaunt thru D.C., i was especially bothered by Bono's bullshit ramblings about this, that, and the other. i literally said aloud, "just sing the fucking song!" i must be getting old. when i was 17, i swooned when Bono did stuff like this. now, at 30, i realize that a rock show is where i want to go to ESCAPE the shit he's always preaching about. - and its funny to hear him ramble about "co-existence" after bitching at a kid in the front row.

Most rock stars are tolerant most of time when it comes to audience anomalies. I’ve seen quite passive rock stars loose their cool over something someone in the audience has done. Lecturing the person in the audience was a mistake and if bono has got the voice to lecture then he should have the voice to say sorry for that remark. I don’t think it was a personal attack it’s something I would never do in my band as a ‘frontman’.

you try singing their songs, its a lot harder than you think and you say he's got no talent but can we see please see you develop a singing voice with no lessons, no training, smoking and drinking and still at 50+ able to hit notes most women can only dream of hitting, do that and we'll talk ;)

Let's be in the moment, he says while singing a worn-out song from a decade ago for the million time.

@ramorman People think that Bono is some self righteous, pompous ass but what they really don't know is what goes on behind the scenes. Sure, he has made mistakes and done things that he regrets, but who hasn't, really? I think that is a great story. Bono truly does have a good heart, and frankly I couldn't care what everybody else says. He's a great man and has done many great things. I have a question: What have YOU people done for starving children in Africa?

Maybe they are talking to the baby sitter, you don't have a young crowd coming to see you anymore.

It's funny because now phones at a rock show is the norm and he kind of just lets it slide now.

They released an app that uses AR on their current tour. They realize it's an uphill battle. They say they might as well give people something to do if they're gonna be looking through their phones.
