I was taken on a journey into the world of u2 and this song was definitely part of the journey! It's mesmerising and inspiring to me!! Their sound was so unique back then and has etched a sound into 80s history 👌

I was lucky enough to be there the night they filmed this. It was on December 20, 1987 at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. It was the very last concert of the entire Joshua Tree tour. U2 was making a movie called Rattle and Hum and they recorded One Tree Hill for that movie on this night. That is this video, however it didn’t make the final cut to be included in the movie. Bullet the Blue Sky and With or Without You we’re both in the Rattle and Hum movie from this December 20, 1987 Joshua Tree tour closing concert. One thing I remember is how the concert that night was different from other U2 concerts I had been to, mostly because of all the video cameras and video crew. Bono would sing sometimes to the audience and other times to a camera. The band was sometimes interacting with the audience while other times they were performing for the multiple cameras. The other thing I remember about that night is that all tickets were only $5 and MTV had a promotion called Spend the Night in the Desert with U2.

I agree. When I found out it was a tribute to their friend and concert manager, it becomes more meaningful. If you watch live aid, and during Bad when he is off stage and waving for a mic to be handed to him, the guy that runs over and gives him the mic is the person that died in a motorcycle accident and who this song is about.

This song held me transfixed as a ten-year old playing TJT on a tape witb headphones. All I knew about music was pop stuff, songs about cars and love. TJT gave me a greater understanding of what a song could be about. This one still wows me, especially the album version when Edge's furious and second guitar kicks in later on.

This is my favorite U2 song. It celebrates life, love, and true unending friendship. I loved it before I knew the back story of why it was written. I have seen these guys 3 times and prayed it would be in the set list, but to no avail. Its still the best U2 song in my opinion.

I couldn't agree with you more. I remember listening to the Whole album and the first time I heard this song I knew it was the best. Absolutely timeless music.

Reminds me of being in the Navy and going to Desert Storm. I heard this song in my mind over and over as a sailor. I had the tape in my small collection I could keep on the ship

Amazing version of an amazing song. Nothing is more special than a song about a person who was lost and each performance is a tribute to them.

Bono's friends started calling him "Bono" but he didn't like it...until they told him what it means. It means "Golden Voice". To me, he has the most beautiful singing voice in the world.

Actually the gang Bono was in with Guggi, Gavin Friday and other of his friends took the name from a shop selling hearing aids. The shop was called Bonavox and they called him (Bono) Bono Vox - meaning good voice - at first. Later it was shortened to just Bono - which means Good.
