The back side of The Joshua Tree was almost completely ignored in airplay, but it's the reason why that album was U2's best.

When I finally saw all of those songs played live in 2017, I just couldn’t believe it. Side 2 of the Joshua Tree is pure magic. Yet it contains very few “popular” songs.

I have to say I was just 16 years old when this album came out! Most of my friends were still listening to 80s electro pop !! I was taken on a journey into the world of u2 and this song was definitely part of the journey! It's mesmerising and inspiring to me!! Their sound was so unique back then and has etched a sound into 80s history 👌

I grew up next to one tree hill, I was at the concert where they paid tribute to the 29 miners that died at Pike River by playing this song. This song will always remind me of home, of the people we have lost and the band that cares enough about the world to dedicate their music to them

It is simply amazing what a masterpiece The Joshua Tree is. Every single track is like a poem from the The Edge's guitar, Bono's vocals, Adam's driving bass, and Larry's rhythms. Together they are perfection.

I was lucky enough to be there the night they filmed this. It was on December 20, 1987 at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. It was the very last concert of the entire Joshua Tree tour. U2 was making a movie called Rattle and Hum and they recorded One Tree Hill for that movie on this night. That is this video, however it didn’t make the final cut to be included in the movie. Bullet the Blue Sky and With or Without You we’re both in the Rattle and Hum movie from this December 20, 1987 Joshua Tree tour closing concert. One thing I remember is how the concert that night was different from other U2 concerts I had been to, mostly because of all the video cameras and video crew. Bono would sing sometimes to the audience and other times to a camera. The band was sometimes interacting with the audience while other times they were performing for the multiple cameras. The other thing I remember about that night is that all tickets were only $5 and MTV had a promotion called Spend the Night in the Desert with U2.

I agree. When I found out it was a tribute to their friend and concert manager, it becomes more meaningful. If you watch live aid, and during Bad when he is off stage and waving for a mic to be handed to him, the guy that runs over and gives him the mic is the person that died in a motorcycle accident and who this song is about.

because people in charge are fuckups, if ur a band, musician, and talented, thats still not enough, if u don't get good people to back you etc, ur like in a sailboat with no wind, going nowhere, it sucks big time, there shouldn't be competition either, bands and companies should help each other out, not compete with each other, its all bullshit, once again it all comes down to this world's 'god'-money

I love that sound, that haunting scream that I now listen for on every song! Yes, Bono's emotional singing is superb, but that guitar "voice" is what I wait for and listen for.

I remember listening to The Joshua Tree while driving to the wake of a loved one recently lost. This song made me feel, for the first time in two weeks, like eventually things would be ok again. Thanks, U2, for reminding us of how beautiful life can be.

Very underrated song and extremely powerful. It always gives me the “feels” when he gets to the “raining in your heart” versus. Bono crushes it with emotion.

I have been listening to U2 since the age of 8. Now 43 i have seen them live multiple times. Chicago Soldier Field 2011. Bono hinted at One Tree Hill at the end if the 2nd set. After Moment of Surrender and knowing it was the day of Greg C death they started playing One Tree Hill. One of the greatest experiences of my life and will always be. Thankyou U2

Yeah, but at the grammys milli vanilli was also awarded. Go figure. So by that account, they should abanded ALL award ceremonys. You can't put a prize on music, film, literature or whatever. If it's actually good it' s all worthy and eternally meaningfull. And grammy just became a bunch comercial horseshit nowadays anyway.

This song held me transfixed as a ten-year old playing TJT on a tape witb headphones. All I knew about music was pop stuff, songs about cars and love. TJT gave me a greater understanding of what a song could be about. This one still wows me, especially the album version when Edge's furious and second guitar kicks in later on.

This is my favorite U2 song. It celebrates life, love, and true unending friendship. I loved it before I knew the back story of why it was written. I have seen these guys 3 times and prayed it would be in the set list, but to no avail. Its still the best U2 song in my opinion.

Actually the gang Bono was in with Guggi, Gavin Friday and other of his friends took the name from a shop selling hearing aids. The shop was called Bonavox and they called him (Bono) Bono Vox - meaning good voice - at first. Later it was shortened to just Bono - which means Good.
