came to Japan in the 90s and completely fell head over heels for UA... There was something she had that no other had... voice? attitude? no idea.... but in anycase, even in 2024 I still rank her right at the top....what a fkkn goddess!
I remember the first time I heard this song was a cover version by Taiwanese singer shino. And I really love the music, especially the base riff. So I decided to check out the original singer, and BAM, I found UA. Her voice in this song hit me like a thunder bolt. It's super amazing, since then I started to look for her music. After so many years, UA's music has become very important in my life. Thank you for the music.

When I arrived in Japan in the 90s, I was surrouned by glitzy, crazy, girly pop.... I was in a bar in Shibuya toward and UA came on... It was like one of those eerie movie moments when the entire bar went into slow motion and suddenly everything came into crystal clear focus, one perfect moment when reality slaps you full on in the face: I realised that had made it to Japan and was living my dream, I would likely never return to my country and... I seriously needed to find out who the hell was singing that song. It was UA and better part of 30 years later, I'm still here and still love UA.

@@graxxor Love the way how you discover UA. She's the Goddess.
2018 I saw her live at a park in Toyonaka Osaka and she and her band are crazy good. They don't play anything like the studio recordings, their sound channels a The Roots/Soulquarians vibe with a jazz bent. They performed this one as a straight funk track

``Sorrow Johnny'' is a masterpiece of blues that represents Japan. UA is a talented singer with a voice similar to (original disco queen) Gloria Gaynor.
