Beautifully done! I got mine a couple of weeks ago before seeing this video but it was an available because I had visited those rooms as a kid, (my dad, Milt Holland, worked a lot at capital in sessions on Percussion and Drums) but I distinctly remember going to visit one of those rooms and low and behold the sound of the plug-in is truly nostalgic and super useful! I and many of my clients in my project-studio prefer all-ribbon mic sessions so having the option in the chambers is all the more reason!

I was reading up a bit on Beck's production techniques and found on Gearslutz his bassist JMJ talking about the lush sound of the album Morning Phase, recorded at Capitol Studios. Made me think I should give this plugin another look. He says: --- "A lot of the ambience you hear is 1) Oceanway chambers, 2) Oceanway plates, or 3) this very bizarre three-knob Digital Reverb from the early '80's [that] reminds me of ... a Publison Infernal Machine." Maybe an idea for the next UAD plugin? He also mentions 1176s for compression and gives a shout out to - "Oceanway B - the finest room in the world, IMHO." - That's cool, Ocean Way by UAD is one of my most indispensable plugins.

I get the "DSP resources were exceeded" error when loading up this on my Quad, even with only 14% DSP being used. What causes this?

Same. It happens with this and with Oceanway... but much worse with Oceanway. Both plugins use algorithms AND impulse response tech... So, I’m guessing something with that. It would be amazing if they would continue to optimize the programming. Acustica plugins use impulse responses and their plugins do it too, but they are constantly updating and getting more stable.

I just bought the twin apollo dual dsp and I got the vocal bundle and I think this will be the first plugin I purchase additionally. I somewhat regret not getting the quad but I'm not the type of person to take something back; is this plugin DSP intensive or should it work fine with my setup? I wish there were performance specs so I knew if I could get it to work with my other plugins simultaneously. You can audition the program for a short time? I don't see it in console.

It uses 76% of a chip. Install 9.9 and it will be in the Reverb section of Console.

First, if you go to the support section of the UA website you can find what they call an instance chart that tells you how many instances of a plug you can run if you have a dual chip setup. Second, the number of chips you have is really dependant on what sort of work you are doing, but if you get a big-ish mix going those two chips are going to get used fairly quickly. And if you want to track more than two channels at a time...I'd say four is way more helpful. The Twin is a useful product, especially compared to the Arrow IMO, but now that you can get six chips on the x6, I'd say that's the bigger bang. Still...UA is just expensive. No way around that. If you do want this plugin wait until Black Friday or December when they have a deal with buy three plugins, get a fourth free, for like $400 total. It's basically the best avenue to getting UAD plugins at near reasonable pricing.

I have invested more than 2500 dollars in UA plugins, the prices aren't coming down so I can advise everybody to checkout Plugin Alliance. They have many of the UA plugins but in Native form and the prices are much much lower. Where a UA plugin is usually $299 you can get the exact same plugin from Plugin Alliance when in sale for 49 dollars. And most plugins are actually really CPU friendly so I can use much more instances of the plugins without my DSP running out of power. UA needs to get there act straight and start charging more reasonable prices for all of their plugins, in the meantime I am very happy with the more reasonable pricing of other plugin companies :)

I think some people should really check their ears(or gear!?), the UAD plugins are one of kind. Also consider what kind of music you are into. The craft and effort they put in their plugins are brilliant. Yes they are expensive and I wish I could buy ALL of them and their hardware. But what I already have is AMAZING. THANK YOU UAD.

@@mikexsalvatore well it's 74% of CPU and you have one CPU on your arrow. So it will function but you can't use almost anything else (like the preamp, eq even if they are lower CPU usage). You can only use it on one track in your project, if you use a return track you can send several tracks to it. Or bounce the track and deactivate. But it's hard to commit a reverb when you track, especially the ones you want to hear like this one. So yes it will work but the downfall of using it is a bit too much if you only have one dsp (and even two in my case)

+Casual Introvert *** A comparable product for you might be Waves Audio Abbey Road Chambers, which I haven't used, but my associates say they like it. However, even though it sounds good, they report it is a huge memory suck. If you can deal with that, cool. But here's a possible advantage for UAD where their DSP takes over. Lots of processing in these types of plugins. But I'm sure the Abbey Road is similarly satisfying. For what it's worth, I didn't want to spend money on the UAD Ocean Way plugin, but damn if I don't use it on every drum mix and many guitar mixes. Just makes stuff sound better! And if you need to reamp poorly recorded tracks it's wonderly easy for making things sound better. This Capitol plugin uses the same technology as the Ocean Way.
