I live Two blocks from the New World Mall and most of the stalls have very good food . The Uyghur stall has excellent Lamb dishes and I love my hand pulled noodles, with chicken. There are so many good food stalls. The Thai street food is excellent. There are so many good Chinese, Korean, Thai, Malaysian, Vietnamese, Japanese and Indian restaurants within a few blocks of Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue (the last stop on the 7 train). The Manhattan Chinatown is for tourists; Flushing is for the Asian community. I’m glad that I like asian food and.

The best food I ever had was a Uyghur lamb bun in Shanghai at a street stall. The one in this mall is good, I get it often, but I'll always yearn for that bun again.

I remember when all of a sudden in the 80s Korean spots started opening up in Flushing. As a HUGE fan of Korean food, even back then when I was only 12 or so it was awesome. Then slowly over the late 80s into the 90s etc. the Korean spots started to dry up and it became the Chinatown it is today. There are still Korean spots here or there from what I understand, and as UA said a fairly sizeable Korean population still in the area. But man, imagine going from incredible Korean food, to incredible Chinese food. As an absolute fan of Asian cuisines, it was heaven lol I still wish a Thai or Vietnamese crowd would have come into the area before I moved out of NY around the year 2000. But, eh. It is what it is :)

The Uyghur food is aaaaaaaahmazing! I go here once a month. I truly love Flushing so much I just wish it didnt take me 40mins to get there! Also: There are actual sit-down dining establishments on the upper floors. They are really nice and the decor is awesome. They are pricier too. The top floor has the famous banquet hall. Its awesome, you will see events/parties/galas happening here all the time. I love catching rehearsals.

I had the exact same Lanzhou braised beef noodle dish from the same stall at the food court and enjoyed it thoroughly. The noodle was on point as described. I personally prefer the connecting tissues pieces more when braised properly in a 15:30 tender way as the flavor comes from the soft jelled collagen from the preparation of deep braising. I also prefer tgd thicker chunks like the ones I tasted that day.

This area really has changed, quite a bit from when i was growing up. I transferred on Main street to continue my long travel, everyday (from Jamaica Queens to Flushing, then later, Bayside for school.) It was already a hotbed of asian industries and cuisines. The cuisine part, i took part in on a regular basis - it is so good, from so many different spots. It became more so welcoming as the people in the area began branching out.

Probably what happened is that the seller doesn’t want to take the time when they can just sell to the next customer. A lot of shortcuts are taken because most customers don’t know how it should be made, and will settle for what’s placed in front of them.

I really miss being able to go to the Flushing Chinatown and the New World Mall food court. Some of the best Chinese cuisine in the country hands down. I know over the last 10 years or so, and especially during and now after the pandemic, the food court has kind of been re-done a bit with some places shutting down and some newer places moving in. But I bet it's still all good. I really wish I could just go to NY to visit Flushing lol It's been 25 years :(
