I can still remember as a school kid in the late 70s going to my life long best friends house ( he is a white guy ) and he was playing a tape of UB40 on his Sony ‘Ghetto Blaster’ and I started jammin to the vibe and I knew this guy was gonna be my friend for life.. I was shocked that he listened to black music and reggae at that... He turned and told me the lead singer was “white” and I nearly fell off my chair... I’m proud to say I’ve seen UB40 sing live before they split... I’m Godfather to my friends 1st Daughter and he was my Best Man when I got married in Jamaica.... I remember going to sign on with my UB40 as a poor working class lad fighting the ‘System’ just like UB40 when they started out in Brum.........

"The mic toasting" what a beautiful expression I never heard it. What does it mean though? Is it toasting because the vocals are on fire? Or is it some type of singing-style? Is it a filter they use? Please explain! :-)

You might believe, and still you feel The chase has just begun; That you must reach that horizon before The setting of the sun. You chase the light in front of you, Nightfall close behind; If you stop to catch your breath, You know what you will find. () Don't slow down don't touch the ground, You know what you will find; That old grey man in tattered clothes Following behind. No time to stop, don't go to sleep, Prepare to pay the cost. The hours and minutes are passing by, Another day is lost. Impatience is a virtue, Catch me if you can. The seconds have been ticking by Since your life began

About 43 years ago the man in the record store I frequented said, I have something for you. A new reggae band from the UK. Have a listen. This was in Amsterdam, The Netherlands where we were slightly behind with import at that time. lol That was present arms in dub, ordered everything else they had made and never looked back. At that time I was probably the only person to walk around with a "boombox" as it was an old Phillips cassette recorder that ate 6 big batteries a day. Everyone that heard the tape was going, wtf who is this!!??
