I think Uber should charge $5.00 minimum fare. I agree if you cannot walk one or two blocks ridiculous. my average rides are $20.00.

$h!t I'd be happy with the uber fare @5 , 3 is like a slap in the face. Socal San Diego is 4. but you don't see that many short rides, most are around $8 mark average driver cut. I'd be ok if the made NoCal minimum 4 but they need to quit with the 16 mile/minute pick-ups.

For me the counter starts the moment I am arriving at the location and Uber says "passenger has been notified". If the passenger isn't there within 5 minutes I cancel and drive off, no remorse.

Never had that happen to me, if they take forever to show and I cancel I don't see them ask for a ride again. Now, my exception to the rule is if a rider actually contacts me and tell me it's going to take a while, yes I will wait if you contact me, at least I know that you are indeed coming. When I was a new Uber driver I sat on a few riders that didn't show up, one took almost 20 minutes, and as a new driver I really didn't know what exactly to do, what was the protocol. So I created my on: anything more than a 5 minute wait and I am gone. I'll also add that every time I arrive at a pick up and the rider isn't there I send a text message saying "Hello, I am your Uber driver. I am waiting outside in a dark Honda Fit." They have no excuse to be over 5 minutes late without a reply.

been knowing since they make a "cancel no show" option. this it's awesome! let me break it down why a 5 cancel is better than a 5 ride. 5 dollar cancel looks like this 5.00 - %20 = 4.00 (time total = around 6-7mins) 5 dollar ride looks like this 5.00 - 1.30 (Chicago rider fee and tax) - %20 = 2.96 (time total can be around 15 mins) so you have $4.00 in 7mins tops or $2.96 in 15 mins basically more money in way less time. Take your pick. It's completely within the bounds of Uber's policy as well.
@monteself6826

there have been many times the rider has a bad "pin" pick-up, they are sometimes in the back of the building lot rather than the front, I was sent to an area and the app said I was there, even Wave said "you have arrived" and it's not even the right street, so then you have to drive around to see if the street is the next one over, also had riders pin the address wrong and this can be f'd up unless you get them on the phone and the tell you WTF is going on. I'm there to please the rider but sometimes this crap Uber does is BS, we should get .50 just to accept a ride, .50 more if they cancel, .50 for arrival + the fare at a 20% rate not 25%, flat minimum $4 (or 5) under 3 mile ride then .75 per mile. question is, how do we know how far the rider is going, we could be canceling a trip that pays $20-40 bucks or more and then spent the rest of the day getting crappy rides.

Stay away from USC (los angeles), I felt like a pinball getting knock around back and forth running snotty ass collage kids making pizza runs from the dorm to the other side of campus. Also many times you get a ping before you drop off the rider you have now, if you accept, it could be another snotty ass student. I like to drop off a rider, turn app off for a second, get my bearings then turn it back on.

I drive in Las Vegas and have a little better rate than some cities but really could be more. Lyft has even a higher rate. Taxis are way up there and has helped our riders ride with Uber. My main issue is to stop driving when tired. I have found when I am tired you can not think ahead as much as you need, such as missing a turn or seeing an address on a dark house. Las Vegas, if you are not from here it takes a lot of thought since you have all the traffic and so many back streets to remember. Yes GPS mapping works well once you get started but not all the time until you drive out on a street. So be well rested so you can deal with knowing your trip before you take off or being able to remember where the traffic is best for your route.

This is great info. I'm a new driver and I had to waste about 5 minutes trying to find a college kid on campus. Later he apologized that when he requested the ride, he had done it from another campus hall, then had walked to another area of the campus.... Then I got a call right after I dropped off a different customer. But when I arrived the customer had just cancelled. So my question is: I thought the 5 minutes starts from when you accept the call, not your arrival. According to what I read on the Uber partner app when I requested a cancellation fee (I see this video was posted last year, so maybe it has since changed to when you accept the call?).
@AutoAuctionRebuilds
@AutoAuctionRebuilds 8 жыл бұрын
+D. Augustine It depends. If you accepted, and have been driving in that direction for 5 mins, yes it counts. If you're sitting still, no. It's best to drive, wait, and cancel. I don't recommend screwing over the PAX.

Here in El Paso you don't get to many rides, last week I received a request 15 minutes away from my home so I accepted it cause haven't made any on a saturday, picked 3 guys and they went 34 miles west to Las Cruces New Mexico, Stopped at Taco Bell(looks like is the riders favorites) It was like an hour trip, ended up whit 50 bucks and 20 on tips, but had to return empty to El Paso. I drove them there cause I didn't know they were going that far, next time a 12 to 15 min ride to pick up I'll just ignore it.

My concern is always if I cancel, and then right as I start driving away they quickly come out and want to get in. I guess you then have to explain that you already cancelled the ride because they weren't there within the allotted 5 minutes, and that they will need to schedule the ride again. I did end up cancelling on someone a couple of days ago, though. I went to the location, and waited almost 5 minutes when I sent her a text that I was waiting outside, and then waited a few more minutes and no response. I tried calling her on the phone, and no answer. (It was at a club, though, she probably couldn't hear the phone.) Oh well, I waited at least 10 minutes on her, longer than I should have, before I gave up and cancelled.

Uber man. . again thank you for the reply... In regards to the first question I asked you about the rider no show, which you answered. ... What about this scenario.? 1. rider requests ride and driver shows up to supposed location. I start the clock on the application software once I have arrived at that destination. 2. I wait 5 minutes and then 5 seconds and then call or text client to ask them where they are ....the client has told me that they are at a different location than originally put into the software for the destination pickup point. 3. client apologizes that they put in wrong destination, tells me what the correct destination is and then I proceeded to head to that client. ( bearing in mind that the clock on the application is still running after the 5 minutes 5 seconds.) 4, I arrive at the different destination the client told me about. from that point forward, before rider gets in the car, can we ... cancel the trip... Get paid because initially it was a rider no show ( or in this case wrong pick up point) and then re request the ride from the new destination start point? or.... let the entire trip ride out as it normally should have been ( with erroneous initial location and then correct new location )and then close the trip once the rider departs the vehicle? That way we would get paid from the initial destination point even though the client messed up on that? it would seem only fair because the client initially put in an incorrect address, we had to wait for that period of time, we contacted them and let them know that we were waiting and then they advised us of the new location, go and pick them up and bring them to their desired destination point in essence, since they put it in incorrectly, we showed up, had to wait, drove to them and then proceeded to bring them to desired destination. I would think we would be able to get the entire ride as a whole or cancel part 1 of the ride, re request the second part of the ride and then take them to their destination... Err go... we get paid twice. any ideas or recommended solutions to this problem? this has happened a few times, especially with drunk university students. Please advise per your convenience. Thank you :-)

+Uber Man You are right by that, but, let me explain. Business has proven time and time again that when it works in favor of both sides that is when it works out best! many of your ideas don't necessarily hurt anyone its just basically tricks, but this one I wanted to let you know that we the customers feel it and its very painful when you're in a rush to come out and learn that your driver left you to make a few dirty dollars more. you sound like a nice guy and this trick doesn't match your personality. Plus I usually complain to uber about it. I mean come on, let's be fair, you're sitting there and doing nothing, you have my number, why not call or text? I hope I am clear enough. (BTW, I usually fight the cancellation fee and I win in most cases. I am not sure if it affects you or not)
@AutoAuctionRebuilds
@AutoAuctionRebuilds 8 жыл бұрын
+Charlie Miller If you win the cancellation fee, it does not affect us at all. We still get it. And I respect your opinion. I am a nice guy by nature. Sadly, customers (passengers) do not understand how these ridiculous rates ($0.30/mi in Detroit, $0.70/mi in OKC) are killing drivers. That's not your fault, it's also not ours. We have to do (within the boundaries of our TOS) what we need to in order to maximize our profitability. At these rates every dollar counts. My last Uber ride to Yukon was only $24. I tipped my driver $20. Still WAY cheaper than a cab for me. If more passengers helped to compensate for the rate cuts with tips (if deserved), more drivers would stop cancelling for the fee. As it stands, this is the way it is. We do what we need to do.

Had a run yesterday, showed up at a condo building, waited 4 minutes, pax calls "I am sorry I forgot to move the pin, you are picking up two students at school" (high school about a mile away) figured be nice and drove there, get there, only 2 cars there, about 20 students outside hanging out, wait 2-3 minutes, no one shows up, call pax she does not answer her phone, wait another 2-3 then cancel. 5 minutes later the pax calls and leaves a not so pleasant voice mail demanding why I did not pick anyone up and demanding her $10 back, Like I am suppose to know who her kids are. Going to keep checking to make sure Uber does not reverse the fee. Guess pax calling and complaining the downside of cancelling trips, but do agree well worth it in the end.

Thank you for the helpful videos. How do we see the final destination of a rider? I find they don't fill it in and it wastes time to me. Also can Uber post the landmark such as Marriot- located at xyz address. The gps is terrible and always put you in the wrong place which I imagine is not good for your rating.
@AutoAuctionRebuilds
@AutoAuctionRebuilds 7 жыл бұрын
Not a problem. Sadly, we can not see the destination before accepting the run, and if they did not enter it at all, we can't see it until they are in the car. You can just type in the name of a hotel, instead of an actual address, and it will work. Thanks.

Uber needs to make the cancellation fee during surge higher. Saturday I had two no show cancellations during surge times. Wait five minutes and then surge is gone or much lower. It can be very frustrating getting a surge ride, you wait they cancel and screw up your Surge opportunity. However it's very likely that Uber will never address this issue. Makes sense to me that if it's in surge then cancellation fee should reflect surge pricing as well. This has happened quite a few times to me and is really irritating!

UM - I have decided to do Uber full-time. I have to say I feel great cause I feel I work for myself and after 100 trips in two weeks I've had great riders, great conversations. You never know who you may meet. Out of 407 trips, I only had one minor problem with one rider and that was in December 2015 cause they were drunk. Other than that it feels great working for yourself. I did two straight weeks with no surges and I was still satisfied with my turnout. It only motivates me to take advantage of every surge that comes. I work six days a week at my own hours and enjoy it. I don't feel like a cab driver just feel like you giving someone a ride down the street and getting paid for it and having a good conversation on the way. The money adds up as long as you stay on the road.

I have dealt with this problem so many times. What "reason" do we give if canceling? Also can't they rate us if we do this and it drops our rating that much faster? I thought I had read we weren't allowed to start the meter until they were in the car. If this isn't the case then I need to start the meter every time now because almost every time I have to wait 5 min or longer when picking up from downtown at the bars.

+Uber Man thanks .. I recently waited on a guy and messaged him . waited ten minutes. he kept saying he was coming out. I finally texted and said please review UBER policy after 5 min we can cancel. please keep this in mind next time you UBER. I then canceled with a rider no show. I got my money ($3) here in LR,Arkansas. But about 10 minute later or less I got a bad rating. was it because I chose a different cancelation reason. I even had a guy tell me how UBER will refund riders if they complain.. guess what went down after I dropped him off?? I contacted UBER about him as well. But I feel trying to delegate the ratings and our rights as drivers is oblivious to UBER. They want their money and drivers and expendable. recently in my area its hard to get a surge or good amount of trips because so many are driving now. plus the riders are getting worse! I usually get pissed like you when I get a really bad one or a handful and say @#$& it Im done for a week or 2. lol

Uber man. ... first and foremost being a driver in the Northeast I love your videos and please keep up the good work... A question in relation to this video... specifically relating to the video, I do work in a college town. Many times the rider will have their location put in but sometimes they are off by a mile or two miles. The other night the rider was off by 7 miles and put the incorrect destination in. I called them and they told me where they work and drove 7 miles back... And was not happy. Could I have arrived at the "incorrect" location even though it was not the exact pick up point, started the clock. Waited 5 minutes, then do rider no show cancel and then contact the rider after the fact and then find out where they truly were and then go back and have them re request ride ? not trying to shaft anybody price wise but trying to get an idea what is deemed proper protocol in this scenario like this if you can share your thoughts please. Your thoughts on this & the best way to proceed? Best. Rick :)

same here in San Joaquin Valley CA, Stockton, Lodi, and surrounding cities even Sacramento. it sucks getting 16 minute pick-ups and they go 1 mile, I've been complaining to Uber every chance I get. it's just not worth it I may as well flip burgers. the rates should be the same everywhere, it's no wonder they don't have drivers working the cities. I was working in SoCal (Carlsbad CA) and the lowest rate was $4, Stockton $3 (Uber fare) and the same 2.25 driver cut, people can afford to take a bus one way $1.25 and back later thats $2.50 for a non door to door service, Uber is really abusing the drivers and insulting their intelligence. someone needs to get some real management in there to give drivers what they deserve, every time I go offline I'll see a surge and if I'm in the middle of it and go online it disappears, or they will show an area surging and if I'm heading that way it keeps getting farther, I have been in the middle of their "surge" and receive no pings and then the disappear, so I say BS to their surge crap, I think the whole time I've driven for Uber I seen one short ride at a 1.2x surge, I have had some decent days of payouts but nothing in the amounts I am hearing some drivers getting, and some days total crap. I don't like big city traffic and I don't like driving nights so I have basically strayed away from nights. I have yet to see a cancellation fee even though I get those 10+ minute pick-ups canceling 2-3 times because they are looking for a closer ride I imagine. maybe our rides need to start when we receive the call from now on ! I have excepted every time I get a ping I guess it's time to change that strategy for the area I'm in now. maybe we could give Uber our number and they can negotiate these trips that don't pay, I'd really like to talk face to face with them and ask "would you run your car into the ground for some company that takes 25% for doing basically NOTHING ?" ok so you have software developers and others that need to be paid for God know what... maybe they need to get out and drive some too and "feel the burn". ok rant over for now.

I'm really tempted to go out and purchase a better car, ect. but heck, this 5 star rating system is NOT FAIR......you say we need to tell passenger's that a 4 is FAILING, so rate me accordingly..well isn't that UBER"S JOB when passengers download the app, and click on the UBER SOP/or rules and regulations?..Unless I keep getting 5 star reviews, getting to 4.6 is really easy to get, and then bye-bye job...there is going to be a learning curve with every job, and UBER I do not think provides a "mentor" like Lyft?...so I'm thinking about going with Lyft first, and then once i get the hang of the app, go with UBER and both really. uberman.... thanks for the reply. I live in the New Hampshire seacoast and I am Not sure if you have been hearing with some going on in this part of the country, but one of the cities in the sea coast, specifically Portsmouth New Hampshire has banned uber drivers from picking up passengers... That's not to say that other drivers are not going against this ban. does the insurance in the way Bill cover us? to be more specific, our town wants 100000 - 300000 insurance and minimum of 50000 property damage on our policy... However when one looks at the way Bill it is a 1 million dollar policy, but if you look further down the second part of the way Bill is less than the numbers which I just mentioned. can the million dollar policy be used as A commercial policy if I understand it correctly? If not and we have to get our own insurance with the other numbers which I mentioned, are the rates going to go through the roof as far as regular policy for a typical passenger car versus commercial policy? I guess I'm just trying to figure out where does uber step in on this? we have to get a criminal background check and provide the insurance is which I explained above. Just trying to figure out what a bird does and does not cover to make this all happen. Any thoughts or suggestions? Most appreciated it. :-) thanks again. Look forward to reply :-)

+Rick Rozek If Uber is available in your market, then yes, their policy covers your passengers as a commercial policy.

Why do you guys do ride share? I do Uber eats and it pays way better. Usually 1.5-1.8 boost, with most payouts being in $6-8 range, then I send them a text after dropping the food thanking them and requesting a thumbs up. At that point they see the tip option.

Wrong. I did this and my ratings dropped from 4.95 to 4.80 People didn't like you staring the app when they weren't in the car and you cannot cancel once you start the trip. When I stopped doing that my rating stopped dropping and went back up.

Just wanted to say thank you to all the drivers who do this because I end up being the one who picks them up and makes that $15+ instead of $3 and looking like a total impatient douchebag. So thank you for canceling your rides and making it easier for me to have $300+ days ;) keep on keeping on I love that money.
