Uberti Walker at 50 yds - part I

Thought I would see how the Walker would do at 50 yds when sights had been set to point of aim at 21 yds. Shot both round ball and the J&D conical. Turns out that later I did take some off the front sight.

I envy your shooting situation. I love the 50 yard test. But... the two places I shoot I can either shoot 30 yards (or less) or 110 yards. I can go to a commercial range outdoor range but they are so strict as to make it not fun. but they do have 50 yard... Like you I like a 6 oclock hold and a 2" or so bull is about best I can see at 50 yards anyway even using rifle sights. watching your vids convince me that with black powder lower velocities mean better accuracy

I think so, especially with revolvers, where there seems to be the chance anyway of jumping the riflings. A few years back I was going with cornmeal and a small amount, but since then, with the lube, I find it's not giving enough (if any) better accuracy to be worth the trouble (especially my wife complaining about using the corn meal and the black, greasy smudges on the carton). I'm really lucky with my setup. One reason I try to video what's going on because others (plenty that know more than I) don't have the opportunity to get their information out to be seen. O.R.

@@oldranger3044 Yes.. my thinking now is that your bullets tend to be undersized in almost every test I have seen. This was very confusing at first since your accuracy has always been enviable to me. I think the lower velocity prevents the bullet from just skipping over the grooves. I noticed that when I sized the chambers (reamed) to close to bore size that velocity goes up. I believe that is because of the much better seal with the bullet fully engaging the rifling and building up much more pressure. My accuracy is no better than yours at 30 yards.... maybe a tad less but my velocity for a 457 ball is well over 800 fps. talking to those with original guns they say that chambers are a good match with the bore sometimes even bigger. I didn't put it together but those original guns all have pretty high velocities even with worn bores are accurate. Also the bores seem to stay cleaner with the bigger ball having a scouring effect on the grooves. that is what I am thinking at this point anyway.
