Great approach on the basement mounting! I've had one of these U6-LR's for a few months. Absolutely no problems with it supporting various types of clients. Co-exists with a U6-Lite and some UAP-M's, and client roaming is smooth.

Running a couple of these, so far they work really well. The range is really good. The antenna gain does help the AP to hear better, that being said I still often just stick with medium power. I would buy more of them.

I just replaced a 5 node google mesh with a UDM, U6-lite and a U6-LR and they work amazingly well in a really challenging house layout. I even had to put the LR into the ceiling above a room (yeah, whatever, you do what you gotta do to keep everyone happy) and the signal strength is still beyond what I ever had from the Google system. Overall I’m pleased and while I’m not quite seeing the full speeds my ISP is giving me, it’s still 6-8 times faster than what I had.

You'll probably never see them. Your best bet would be 4x4 MU:MIMO device on a 160 wide channel, and even at that wifi frame overheads will offer a fraction of marketing quotation of AP. It's good you are satisfied with your results though, 802.11ax is amazing!

In Asia there is no shortage on U6 stock. For our hotel installs we used to do NanoHD in rooms, HD in public areas. That now we changed to U6-LITE and U6-LR . On our scale this comes with a massive cost reduction. U6-LR still comes with a smaller box (carton now has 10 pcs instead of 5 pcs for the HD), but the U6-LITE comes in boxes of 20 pcs and is smaller than the 10pcs that comes in a NanoHD carton. Finally no more PoE bricks and much much less plastic which is good for the environment. These are products designed for scalability. I feelHD and NanoHD are more suitable for smaller scale power users but for hospitality projects the current U6 is perfect. We’re on 350 x U6 now and have orders in for 350 more.

Great video but I think one of the major drawback of this WAP is the lack of mGig interfaces that could create a potential bottleneck. If you check Cisco as an example, a Wi-Fi6 4:4x4 comes 5 Gbps mGig interface instead of traditional 1 Gbps NIC

I have actually been experiencing some issues with roaming in a mixed environment with UAP-AC-Pro models. However now that they upped the limit to 4 per customer I just ordered 2x more U6-LR units which hopefully will resolve the roaming. The specific issues I'm seeing only seem to appear when I'm doing a video call and move between APs (and yes I have 802.11r fast roaming enabled). I suspect there is an 802.11r handoff issue between these models as it seems to behave like before 802.11r support was available.

The only thing I would add on those particular units which I ran before upgrading to IP68 units is that if your using them in a Dirty environment they tend to collect a lot of dust internally and the older models I've had issue's with the blue light ring going bad. It should be noted that my environment is extremely hot and dusty. I switched to Engenius IP68 units and the only downside so far is that it is hard to tell from a visual stand point on the ground if the AP is on or not when its 20-30ft in the air. Unique situation otherwise great product for home & office use. You are correct speed for us is a non factor but reliability was very important.

Hi Tom, Do you think this would be good for a school district that is all in one building? We have about 635 students currently and 150 employees. Typically I see about 700 to 800 client devices per day throughout the building. We intend to receive another 200 or so students next year totalling 800 to 900 students next year & want to make sure the system can handle it well. I know it says 600+ clients but does that mean 600+ per SSID or 600+ per AP can handle that amount? Not sure Thanks much!!

Wish they would offer a WiFi 6 AP with 2.5Gbps LAN. I don't know if it's a chipset limitation, but 2.5Gbps NICs are a few dollars compared to the 10s of cents that 1Gbps NICs are. If they offered this same AP with 2.5Gbps LAN for $20 more, it would be constantly sold out.

@antonterekhov9389 3 жыл бұрын
If you look at the "near-real conditions" tests with 1, 2, and 2+ (including 10-20) active clients, you'll notice that speed is far from 1 Gbps anyway, so 2.5Gbps LAN could be just for a hype only.

Don’t worry about 2,5 Gb on the lite and LR. I set up a lab at work with UniFi, D-link and Ruckus and UniFi 6 series performed exceptionally bad even compared to D-link. The only AP in that test that delivered “wifi6” speeds and could handle MU-MIMO was Ruckus. And there you really need 2,5 Gb, but of course it does support it.

My U6-LR gets ~930 Mbit/s when in direct line of sight (80 MHz) (iPhone 12 Pro). I'm sure Ubiquiti is already working on a "U6-Enterprise" with a 2.5 Gbps NIC. That would become much more useful when used with 160 MHz channel width for example.

@@antonterekhov9389 Perhaps for use in the home. At work we use Aruba 550 APs and with iPerf I was able to bottleneck the 2.5gbps port quiet easily with a few clients while testing. We are just now upgrading from Wireless N APs. So it could be another 10 years before we upgrade.
@antonterekhov9389
@antonterekhov9389 3 жыл бұрын
Guys, we're talking about 179$ AP, not Ruckus/Aruba starting at 500++++$. The U6-LR will not give you 1Gbps in any condition (maybe super synthetic only), so 2.5 Gbps is redundant here.

Deployed 6 of these in a tower building, Performance has been great however got an issue with Unifi's MAC address blocking not working - just kept getting authentication issues as if the AP couldn't see the MAC list. Moved to a RADUIS server anyway to resolve issue as we were close to limits on the Unifi controller. Now looking to implement WPA enterprise now we have this in place.

Any considerations for doing that "upfiring" basement mounting? I'm about to do a residential setup and this would save me a tremendous amount of effort as attic access is a pain in my home. I've got plaster and some different brick/stone walls that make wifi terrible across the house. I ended going with more of the lites vs. LR. I'm holding out for the flex for an outdoor unit.

I know it's debatable (and I don't care to debate about it so don't bother) but I would like to see more bandwidth on the uplink between the AP and the switch. I don't really have a reason to upgrade until they do, and probably not a reason to upgrade even if they did, but I would like to see hardware where the link between the AP and the switch is closer to the max throughput of the AP (even if it's some marketing number they produced in a lab). Yep, that's all. Then I will buy what's on sale because it was last year's model, haha.

Yeah I only had an issue with a customer site that had 22x UAP-AC-Pro APs across four floors (issue occurred within an hour of site coming online). Apparently the issue showed up pretty quickly in an environment where stations roamed from AP to AP quite easily vs having a few APs spread far out (majority of our UniFi deployments). Unfortunately it took Ubiquiti a couple months to get a working AP firmware update out and customer was not happy with us.
